Guest Anonymous Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Coal is WAY too bored around the house, even with the constant play and attention he gets, when I have something important to do, he seems to always be bored. I've decided he needs some jobs to do around the house, 'pecially since it's winter now, and it's not much fun outside, too cold, he's spending more time in doors. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't think of a THING this morning of what he could possibly do around the house :-? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Well... I don't know if these would work or not. But maybe he could learn to bring you your shoes, or slippers? Learn to "tidy" the house by putting things in a special spot? Eat spilled food off the floors?(maybe allready does that :P ) I don't know... Quote
courtnek Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 Shara, silly girl... You're SPOILING him rotten!!!    he doesnt need to be entertained every minute of every day, in fact he needs to learn that sometimes there is nothing to do, and to just lie down and relax. In the wild, most animals, if they arent hunting, spend the rest of the time sleeping. You spend a lot of time with him already, good, positive time...it wont hurt him to just lie down now and then and be bored... :D Quote
iceyshiver21 Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 TENNIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE WANTS TO PLAY FETCH! Quote
StarFox Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 I agree with courtnek, sometimes dogs need to just learn how to relax. But......do you buy thoes 12 pack of sodas? The ones that come in a box? Teach Coal how to rip them open. We taught zebra how to do it because my mom always opened them up. So he justs rips the box apart and the sodas fall all over the place...... :-? On second thought maybe you don't want to teach him that! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003    He's just so down right IRRITATING when he's bored though! And then he gets snappy, he's just an evil little dog :evilbat:   I don't think I'd trust him with my shoes actually :o  But when he's older, i wana teach him to help bring the groceries in :D I was teaching Hazel that, and she was ALMOST able to be trusted carying a bag of food... or at least the unedible thingys. Starfox-   LMFAO! I can just picture Zebra doing that! hehe Last night he was being such a pain, he had Taz trapped under the couch, and i went to bring him downstairs to sit with jared and I, but he was being a pain, and would snap at me and stuff, so I was guna put him ina "time out" (in the crate) because he needed to just chill for a second, and I couldn't even catch him! I was so mad! So finally Jared caught him, and i tried to bring him into Kat's room but he'd just twirl around, so Jared PICKED HIM UP   carried him down the hall, and put him in the crate for a time out. We let him sit in there for about 10 minutes (have been building the time up, he's still learning) then when we let him out, he was a charm! That's what i mean about when he's bored, he starts chasing the cats, or just gets snappy and mean :x Quote
courtnek Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 good strategy - let Jared help you train him. He obviously responds to being punished better this way...he's just spoiled Shara. He will have to learn that lay down means just that....he's still learning, just try to reinforce that. :) Quote
Duke_3 Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Hey shara!!! um..things for coal to do.... 1. You could get him a ball and teach him to play fetch with his loneseom(i saw a dog do it once! he threw the ball up and caught it and when he missed hed run after it and then keep playing.) 2. I have a ball you could use..has a bell in it so the cats might over take on that.. 3. YOu might even be able to teach him to be your little slave, wait DONT! IF YA DO..he'll take over my job... 8) I am not sure ... He should learn to sleep, or be lazy like duke! then he wont get irritating so often. But then again dukes like alwasy sleepping.... Quote
nadooshkinz Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Ahhhh Little Coaly getting bored now eh? You could teach him to type! Guest Anonymous Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Coal has his own ball Lexie  And he actually does that! hehe, but he found it's MUCH funner when I play fetch too! Court - it bugs the hell outa me. He listens to Jared but not me!! Jared doesn't even always see him! I usually keep them apart, otherwise I don't get to spend time with my b/f! :o    Quote
Duke_3 Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 ok ya well then do you want the ball for the cats? cause i got it for tink but she hates it so.. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 when paddy gets bored he keeps nudgeing my leg with his nose Asking to be taken out, it does not matter how cold or wet it is Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 Mouse - Dog's are so cute when they do that! Lexie - how big is the ball? Cuz if it's small enough for the cats, or Tink, I'm guessin it'd be too small for Coal anyway :o Quote
