Dog Socialization

my baby, Phoenix, is normally really good on her leash, but when another dog comes by, she immediately either starts yanking on her leash and has even discovered how to turn around and pull so her collar slips over her head. I've started using a harness, which she still can get out of using her turning around method, but it' takes longer for her to completely get out of it, so there's enough time for me to correct her and push the harness back down. At first i thought it was becuase the harness wasn't tight enough, but even when I tightened she still could get out of it. (hence her nickname Houdini)
now she eithers wants to jump all over the other dog and growl, or get very submissive and whine but this is mostly when the dog is bigger than her or male. what should i do to try and correct her?

I've never actually tried a halti, but I know a lot of people who find them to be very effective tools when teaching a dog to walk on a leash.

The halti controls their head, and that's pretty much all I know about them!

When worn correctly they would be pretty hard to get out of. Probably someone who has used them before will reply to help you out!

I never liked using a halti, but that was because my last dog, she'd go for walks without pulling, until a dog came along (she was extremely aggressive) then it was as if the Halti wasn't even on her, I was always afraid she'd break her neck or something :o But I finally was convinced to use one on Coal last night at Obediance class, and he was a charm on it. Pouted most of the time, but he'll get over it.
Not saying your dog has it, and in fact I know nothing about it, just heard of it really last night, but ever look into if your dog has "leash aggression"? When she pulls is it to play? That's how Coal is, and some people think he's acting aggressivly because he'll snarl and bark, but that's just cuz he wants to go so bad, he would never hurt a fly, he's a big wuss

GET A GENTLE LEADER!!!!! if they happen to get it off their nose ( as cody does sometimes ) it still stay around their neck and they have to be done sorta tight so she should not be able to get out of it! i use mine for my rottie and aussie... they are great!! iw ould also start socializing her with other dogs. take her to dog classes.. Cody i though was fine around other dogs, come to find out he will attack black labs and dogs that are bigger then him. he loves the little guys.. so he goes to puppy class 2 times a week and when he is good with that we will put him in withthe big dogs....

good luck!

I would like to take Phoenix to obedience classes eventually, but I'm afraid she won't be able to just be calm enough to benefit from them. She'd either be struggling to play with/jump on some other dog, or would be cowering behind me. I try to socialize her with my sister's dogs, one of them is about her age, A goldie, and the other is older and bigger than she is, a german shepherd (also the daddy of the soon-to-be litter! can't take the anticipation) but they can only tolerate her hypreness for awhile before throwing her off their backs and then going back inside. (the goldie normally plays a little longer becuase he's more Phoe's age and his hypr level is almost up there with hers  )
I hope I'm not making her seem like this wild dog becuase on her own she's so sweet and loveable to any stranger (who doesn't have a dog)

If you can find one, get her a leather sled harness. It goes both around the neck, and the chest and body, and cant be pulled out of. I dont trust the GL's or the Halti for a dog that can slide out of a harness.

Oops, that was me. I forgot to log in.

And don't worry if she is hyper during the classes, that is why you go! If she were a perfectly behaved dog you wouldn't need to take her to the classes!
