I need info ASAP on the myth of the locking jaw of the pitbull.

Also, looking for a statistical list which shows which breeds are more likely to bite, in order.

And need rebuttle for people who think pits should be banned due to their 'bite' being worse than the bite of a poodle, etc.

Ugghhhh, when will people learn to punish the deed and not the breed.

THANK YOU!!!

They shouldnt be banned for thier bite power, owners should just be made more aware of what they have. lots of people just dont realize the power these dogs possess . They try to raise them like they are poodles and you cant do that. The problem are some people dont realize what they can do and then the other people want them because of what they can do. both sides are wrong. you need to know what the dog is capable of and train to control the urges and socialize to work and work and work to have a stable pet and a ambassador for the breed.

Lots of dogs can do more damage than an APBT its just few dogs the SIZE of an APBT can match it in power. a 30lb pit bull is a very formidable dog, while 30 lbs of poodle is... well.. not. a 150lb Neopolitan mastiff can do CONSIDERABLE damage. but you dont see them on the chopping block. or what about South African Boerboels they are also a very large and powerful dog. Bullmastiffs, Akbash, heck any of the Mollessor dogs are more than capable of killing a human being. Banning the apbt isnt the answer, education, training, and less idiots with them is.

Thank you all for your replies. I did find a few things to post. And have gotten some support from others on the site.........but there are still many there who believe the pit to be a beast and should be pts. Some go as far as to say that parents should be ashamed of allowing a pit to be in the same house as their children  .

I have posted all I can there......it is not turning ugly so I am wishing them all the best. I have stated 'punish the deed, not the breed' and will have to hope that my articles will change atleast one mind. **sigh**

Thanks again for your help!

Oh, and no.....my area is not banning pits, thank goodness! I do not have one now, but someday in the future would like to. :) I do live on the boarder of OH, and we all know how bad they are with BSL! uggghhh

I have a strong dislike for these types of stats...simply because I do not think that they are fair or correct. They never say how many Pit Bulls or other breeds were included in total, if they just included bite stats or if they did include the "good" Pit Bulls/other breeds as well. Because the stats would look a lot less convincing I think if they included the large, huge number of good Pit Bulls that there are. That number would surely out weigh the number of attacks.

And also you can find stats to support either side..soo frustrating!

Here are some other "stat" sites..

This site is mostly articles but if you look through the years you can see an increase in Pit Bulls attacks, as they gained more popularity.

Call you local animal shelters, rescues and SPCA's. There was a small town here in California that was thinking of a Pitbull ban but was easyly stoped. The Pitbull owner that gave the speech to the city countcell call all the shelters and spca's he could from around his area. Funny thing is that the most often animal that was doing the biting was CAT'S!
