Guest Anonymous Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Nice post disSanFranchised. Gamebred APBTs are not the problem. Im just gonna post some info that noone really seems to know, about game APBTs.... Farmers Branch, TX has kept fairly accurate records on dog bite stats since 1980. During a 7 year period there were 1,593 total bites. Gamedogs were responsible for 30, or 1.89% of the total. Other studies tend to show the same results but because so many mutts have similar features to the APBT, the figures are assumed to actually be much lower. The APBT is rated as one of the top 5 breeds in the US. The American Temperment Test Society has been testing breed temperments for the last 24 years, over 185 specific breeds. The APBT rates at 83.1% passing rate, which is higner than the national average for ALL other breeds. Which means, the APBT has the best over all temperment. The ATTS tests dogs all over the country and is recognized by the AKC and UKC. Also, in the US, more families own pit bulls than any other breed in existence. The pit bulls that are causing problems are the dogs bred by novice breeders breeding for color, head size, and people thinking bigger is better. Its not the people that have matched their dogs in contests thats taking its toll on this breed but the breeders who have done nothing with the dogs, thinking they are a novelty, the people in it for the money. The facts are there was never a problem when the APBT was in the hands of real dogmen. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 DisSan: Took me a while to find it, but I read it in Desmond Morris' Dogs. He says: "The reason for this extreme action [banning pit bulls]was not just that there had been a few savage attacks on people, but also that the government wanted to prevent the growth of organized dog-fighting in Britain." I have read it elsewhere too, but can't remember where at the moment. What I am wondering is, was this breed ban successful in preventing dog-fighting in Britain? Are there any statistics on dog-fighting in Britain? The facts are there was never a problem when the APBT was in the hands of real dogmen. What is a "real dogman?" I have a feeling I don't want to know. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 29, 2004 Posted May 29, 2004 Real dogmen... The men that brought the APBT to be... The men that bred these dogs to be what they are today... The men that bred these dogs honestly and didnt breed dogs for their looks but for their temperment and gameness. You can hate matching dogs all you want, I understand that, but give credit where it is due. If it werent for those men and women, BSL would be advanced by several years. APBTs probably would be totally outlawed if they werent in the hands of the "real dogmen" for all those years. AGAIN, the problem now are the breeders who breed for color, head size, chest size.... all the crap that doesnt mean anything. they dont care about the temperment of the dogs. they are breeding for MONEY. "Real dogmen" breed for the dogs, because they love their breed. These men are the only people you will ever get a quality APBT from. Quote
