pei obssessed Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 I was walking home from the park yesterday, when a lady on a bike stopped right beside me and Hippo and asked me--"is that a pitbull?" :o Now look at Hippo's face and tell me if this person could have been in her right mind  ok, I'm ready to admit that from a distance her body looks athletic, vaguely like a pit's, but, really, the wrinkles???!!! Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 I get asked all the time "what breed are they never seen that breed before" Quote
imported_nea Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 No, she does not look like a pit bull! She does look awfully cute though! :) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 LOL that is so hilarious because I got asked if my male Pit Bull was a Shar Pei...lol The guy even tried to argue a little in disbelieve that he was a Pit Bull, this was when he was a pup and had some wrinkles, but not really that many. Some people know little about dog breeds including some vets and shelters this is how we get mistaken identity. Even if someone is bit by another breed they still may say it was a Pit Bull. Quote
Sanvean Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Great...god forbid she ever bite anyone. The media will be screaming, "Oh my god, it's a vicious pit bull!" Quote
marion Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 "A Pit" I don't think so, :o some people. And you're right mouse, everyone who's seen the pic of Paddy and Gladis ALWAYS ask what breed they are. :x Quote

The media will be screaming, "Oh my god, it's a vicious pit bull!" exactly! (not that she'd ever bite anyone--she's very friendly, but...) That's how most of the media stories on pitbull attacks get written--with this much knowledge about dog breeds  Yes, mouse, I get asked what breed she is, but that's ok, because some people don't know and wanna find out. I don't know all the breeds. But then I don't assume either :x Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted October 23, 2003 Posted October 23, 2003 Hah! I can do you one better! Look at my avatar. Now imagine this... these same dogs were in my car at a gas station when someone peered in, gasped, and said, "Are those long haired Pit Bulls?!" ?:-?? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 :o Geez... I never knew the Shar Pei exsisted until about... hmmm.. I think it was about grade 6 (I'm in grade 11 now... well, should be) and my friend got a pei/GSD, and of course I had to go and do all the research I could on Pei's because I'm like that... I hear of a breed I've never heard of before and I have to know all I can about them  But I've never seen a pure bred one in real life... I never even knew anyone with a pure bred until I came on dogo!! :o Horsefeathers! napisał(a):Hah! I can do you one better! Look at my avatar. Taurus and Jada Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 That's really funny, I've actually been asked by 4 or 5 people if Jada is " one of those wrinkle dogs" as they put it! I mean come on... do you see wrinkles anywhere? I don't . LOTS of extra skin, but no wrinkles SOme people make me laugh :P Quote
pei obssessed Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 yeah, Hippo is referred to as a "wrinkle dog" most of the time  and sure Jada looks like Hippo's identical twin  and they're both related to Horsefeather's standard poodles, and Mei-mei's great dane--all of them will eventually turn into vicious pitbulls :evilbat: Speaking of which, a lady at the dog park who has a very cute 2 year old rottie that Hippo plays with told me that somebody asked her "what's she gonna do when her rottie turns vicious?" I guess it's something to consider :evilbat: Some people... Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I had someone ask me if Sassy was a pit  Pei's aren't seen a whole lot really. And if someone see's you with one, they ask all sorts of questions. I had someone ask me if she was mad, cause of the pei' scowl   Quote
Malamum Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Some people really have no idea do they? Around here Shar-pei tend to get called rolly dogs. They became quite well known when a Shar-pei puppy featured in a toilet paper commercial. The dogs name was Rolly and people just started to call them rolly dogs. Quote
Sharpeigirl Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I can only speak from my problems with Sassy, she tends to not like other dogs, she'll get agressive at times, but it depends on the sex of the dog. Females, she'll try to attack, but males, she's fine & dandy with. This is just my exsperince with a dog aggerssion problem Quote
DogPaddle Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 We had a neighbour who had a black dog with barely any wrinkles and he said it was a pei but I am not sure. The dog was either dog agressive or fence agressive - scared my mom's poor cockapoo badly. Sweet as could be with people though, had incredible tolerance with the neighbours 3 year old. Quote
pei obssessed Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 DogPaddle napisał(a):Are peis prone to dog aggression? I have to say yes, IF not socialized extensively. they also tend to be very protective of their own (yard, house, people) if not taught otherwise. However, my Hippo is very, very dog-friendly, all and any dogs... in fact, she's really good with dogs who have problems: even though the said dog will try to snap at her or bite her, she'll just turn her head on the side and persist in saying hello  and here's Hippo getting beaten up by a schnoodle... and she plays like this with all kinds of dogs at our doggie park :D Quote

Ah yes the exceedingly rare and much sought after long curly haired pit bulls! And they only bite criminals! Get yours today, this offer not available in all states. One day Jesse was out front with me. Some kids rode by on bikes, I heard one tell the others, 'that there is a WOLF!' He had all the assurance that only a preteen can have. Didn't help that Jesse trotted across the width of the yard to watch them go by. Quote
