Rosebud Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 :beerchug: :B-fly: :laola: PERMISSION TO CROSS POST! Below you will see the formal statement made to Ridgeback owners from the Texas Division of the ACS. Please note that this policy change is only for the state of Texas. We now need to continue to make our voices heard at the national level. Please take the time to email or call the ACS offices in Atlanta, 404-320-3333, www.cancer.org to find email form, to let them know this should be a national ACS policy. Letters are one of the best ways to be heard. If you don't have time to write your own letter, simply print out the new Texas policy, write please adopt this policy nationally, with your name city and state on it and send it to: American Cancer Society Atlanta 1599 Clifton Road Atlanta, GA 30329 We have made a difference with our diligence in Texas, lets make a difference nation wide!! October 17, 2003 Dear Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue member: The American Cancer Society understands the concerns expressed for the two Rhodesian Ridgeback puppies auctioned at our gala in Abilene, Texas on October 11 and we value the input given by the various rescue groups and their members. We have considered stepping away from raffles of companion animals for some time and now feel it is time to move forward and make it our business practice to not conduct raffles or auctions of companion pets. Our organization has been in contact with the Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue Associations to discuss the issues around the breed, and the importance of providing the animals with a safe, appropriate home. This has been a productive two-way communication opportunity that has resulted in a positive outcome for the puppies involved. We appreciate the input from Christy O'Keefe of the Texas rescue group and Pam Mathews of the national association. The American Cancer Society, Texas Division shares the view of the rescue groups on the importance of responsible pet ownership and understands the sizable commitment attached to caring for an animal. Sincerely, Jackie Bayly-Bryant VP for Communications American Cancer Society, Texas Division, Inc. PO Box 149054 Austin, TX 78714-9054 Jackie.bayly-bryant@cancer.org  Quote
