Guest Anonymous Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 Have a guestion if anyone knows the answer to, Our male basset hound is kinda of stand off to strangers and will almost give the impression that he may bite them and I have always read that bassets are very friendly, should this be a concern. He is a house dog about a year old we have had him since he was about 10 weeks old and we have children. thanks for any advice or help that can be given. He likes strangers if they aproach him slowely but still acts not so friendly sometimes. :-? :-? Quote
courtnek Posted October 14, 2003 Posted October 14, 2003 I am new to hound ownership, but have been told and read that they can go one of two ways...either be very friendly to people, or very stand-offish...mine is standoffish....and timid, but that's just her... was yours socialized with people early on? Mine was field trialed and had lived in a pack environment, with very little people exposure.... I cant be a great help, this is my first hound, but from what I've read it kust depends on the dog... hope that helps... Quote
Peng1zrule Posted October 15, 2003 Posted October 15, 2003 in my experience, to back up courtnek, you've got one of two hound types: friendlyfriendly or not so much. He may just be unsocialized, especially with the impression of maybe biting people. If he is not socialized, do it NOW. Unsocialized, unnuetered males are the biggest biters. How does he let people know he may bite? It may turn out he's just more interested in working, instead of being a family member. Quote
