K is correct. Canines (wolves and dogs) perceive the male as a threat as they get close to birthing. She needs a whelping box, filled with old blankets or straw, and a room to herself. Behind a closed door, where the male cannot enter. She could very well damage the male if she perceives him as a threat to her birthing. She will not perceive a female as a threat
in the room with her, but the males really need to keep out for now.

Thank you,her room is ready but will it come naturally for her to just go in there by herself because she hates being apart from him,and will she feel that we are abondoning her.
i have also brought a baby gate for the doorway shall i use this instead of closing the door on her.
if not my husband can just sleep with her in the room
thanks

a baby gate will work, providing it's secured fast enough that he cannot
knock it over. She may not go there on her own until it's "time", but I have been pregnant and it's not comfortable in the last days. On top of being bloated and fat, she is irritable as well...it would be best to keep her
in there, and if the male wants to hang out outside the gate, that's fine. At least neither will be injured in a scuffle. Do not be surprised if as her time draws closer, she drives him away from the gate as well...it's an instinctive thing, she cant help it....she just doesnt want him too close right now....

Thank you all, last night we tried to make her go in her room but she only stays in there if one of us stay with her,she is so use to sleeping in our room, she does not like to stay alone. They seem fine this morning but she only starts for about 1hr sat it was around 2 till 3 and yesterday she started 8 till 9,it is so hard to keep them seperated because they just scratch and pull at the carpet to get to each other,we dont know what to do.Also we will put up the puppy pics.

Have you thought about boarding your male until every thing is over and done with? when my bitch goes into heat I take my intact males back to their breeder and leave them there for 3 weeks...and next year the breeder will be breeding my bitch, she will be going back to the breeder to whelp, after the pups are weaned they will all be coming back to live with me... :drinking:
I know it sounds a little harsh to send your boy to a boarding facility or even back to the orginal breeder...but, it can save you alot of stress in the long run. Once the pups are born your bitch will be very busy looking after them...and in the meanwhile she will probably want all of your attention.

put the whelping box in your room, if that's where you stay most of the time. The baby gates are a hassle, and like K said, can be knocked over,
but if you can secure them tightly you should be ok....My son wasnt able to move them, and my dogs have never been able to either. if they can jump over you may need two, one on top of the other.

This is how I kept my son from escaping from his room when he first
started escaping from his crib....and I only did it because three feet outside his bedroom were the stairs, a long winding flight down to the living room, so I had to keep him in his room until I could get him out...

do you have a kennel? Maybe it wuld be best to set up the whelping box in a large kennel, and put her in it in your room. That way she is secure, she's with you and she cant damage the male....You wouldnt need to
do anything until she starts to give birth...

Some of the kennels have removable tops as well...

My husbund has made her a whelping box, which we have put in our room already,as she wont stay in the room on her own,we have filled it with blankets and news paper but she wont go near it yet, will it just come natural to get in it when she goes into labour?or will she have them where she wants?
