The Ocherese Beginnings
I took my beautiful Show Pekingese and bred them to a Tiny Toy Poodle. This mixture worked well except that I did not like the texture of their coats. To straighten this coat I wanted an animal that still had the mild temper of the Pekingese but also had a small face, long hair, and did not shed. During my search I looked over the Maltese, which happened to be the special ingredient that was missing from my perfect recipe. In the mean time I also had five children, so I wanted a dog with a coat that did not need a lot of care. To say the least, my job was cut out for me. I really loved long haired creatures, but could I produce this loving animal that I so longed for? To add to all of this I also wanted a beautiful sunset red color. My Pekingese had red in their background but I never seemed to produce a red coat. Well, God must have been looking to help me,for a dear friend of mine gave me a wonderful Maltese. My Pek-A-Poo came in season, and I had no one else to breed her with, so I used this very willing, lovable Maltese. The rest is now history. Yet like history, not all is told. The mysterious ingredient is a strict family secret.

I came up with this beautiful little creature. That had a gorgeous sunset red coat, and who laid in my arms on her back and completely trusted that I would never hurt a hair on her little head. She was right. In this litter I had a black puppy with little white feet and a white puppy. This is how I started with such versatile color variations. This was the beginning of the happiest and hardest time of my life.

It was after this that I became very ill. After years of being misdiagnosed, I started to wonder if all of my work with this breeding program would be for nothing. I would spend days at a time in bed. My sons started to help with the care of my canine friends. Not one of my dogs had puppies the whole time I was ill. Again the Good Lord stepped in. I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Polymyalgia Rheumatica, and Sleep Apnea which all cause chronic pain. With treatment, I started to put my life back in some kind of order. I missed spending time with my dogs by this time, so each day I devoted as much time as I could to them. I loved just to study them and see how they related to different changes in their lives.

:o I think u're barking up the wrong tree here, most everyone at this forum doesn't believe in breeding "designer dogs". :o I'm confused as to what we're suppposed to say to this post......

I couldn't have said it better myself!

[b] I to am a little confussed by your post. I dont belive in breeding a designer dog either,I thinkMEI MEI said it alL. IT TURNS MY STOMACH to think about it I dont think anyone should play around with inter breeding at all.I dont mind mixed breeds some times it cant be help but to do it to make lots of money NO WAY.I have a cross breed at the moment and i love her to bits. Also there are enough unwated dogs out there that need love and a good home as it is.

I'm not sure that the person who posted is breeding these dogs, or at least the topic of the post dosen't sound like it. :-?

I'm sorry for this person's illness too but the last thing we need is more mixed breeds or any dogs from unethical breeders in this world. This person dosen't even sound like their doing it to make a "better" dog with
better traits they just sound like their doing it for looks. If you want a hypoallergenic dog...get a poodle, or a wheaten terrier, or a breed thats already a breed. If you want a long coated dog that looks like a pekinese...get a peke. If you want a dog with a coat like a maltese.....well you get what im saying.

:o :o :o

I am having a hard time trying to imagine what an "Ocherese" would even look like....

How can you create a long haired dog that doesnt shed???

I'm sorry, but I'm not thinking this is such a good idea.....

A good breeder would breed for health and temperment, NOT colour.

Did you even bother to check out this dogs genetics? Temperment? Health? Hips? Elbows? Anything? I'm trying to be nice here, but you are sounding more like a backyard breeder then a person looking to start a great, healthy new breed.

This isn't the family BBQ recipe.....

I'm really sorry to hear that. And after everything I have said I am glad you have your dogs to keep you company and going. There is no better medcine in the world then a dog! I hope you are doing better. But I really strongly believe you shoudl think about this breeding program you have going on...if you keep breeding like this...you will end up with sick, genetically messed up dogs.

No one with five children should own a Pekinese, a Maltese and a toy poodle, or any combination thereof. There is a reason reputable breeders won't sell toy breeds to families with little children, and it is because it's bad for the children and bad for the dogs.

Help me with this Sanvean...the Pekignese and the Maltese I can understand, having been threatened (but never bitten) by both...

but why the Toy Poodle? They tend to be yappy and if spoiled, obnoxious,
but I have never heard they were dangerous around children....

I was almost bitten by my parent's friends toy poodle "Bimbo" when I was little. This dog was a little curly haired demon..I like Poodles, but this dog was scary.

Yeah, or check out some shelters and see if maybe they already have some "accidents" that fit your bill. They might. Or they might have some combo that you'd never thought of, but loved anyway. Mutts can be amazing. With my mutt, we found (well, she found us, actually) a dog that suited my love of flipped over tails and longish hair, and my mom got the shepherd head and ears that she loves, plus we got an awesome dog, too. And she's incredibly healthy. No one believes us when we says she's about 7 years old. We don't believe ourselves, actually.

To me, this mutt is absolutely gorgeous, and she's beautiful inside. But there's no way we'd try to reproduce her, because there are plenty more dogs out there in need of rescuing when the time comes to get another dog. So I'm siding with everyone else that, while it's wonderful that you've got your dogs and love them, I hope you'll reconsider before you try to start a breeding program.

WTF what is that post about ? i can't belive your proud of yourself for screwin with poor little dogs to make the "perfect dog" for you. that makes me sick. i can't belive it. and then to come HERE of all places and post that? if you have read around here NO agrees with breeding mismatched dogs for your own pleasure trying to get a perfect dog.. Go to a shelter the dogs there are special in their own way and in need of love.! dont create more puppies.. that's just concided.. only intersteted in your own personal happiness.. you make me sick.

I realy don't think Brinnies_Ma is the breeder of these dogs. The title of this post is "What the??????" like she is just as confused as we are about this breeding.

As for whoever is breeding these dogs i would like to thank you for adding to the problem of shelter overpopulation. Thank you soo much for putting more dogs in the shelters so that people like us have to take care of because you are soo irresonsible.

I think I'm going to have to bite my toungue on this one.... REALLY HARD!!! You all know how I feel about designer dogs, so I'm not even going to start (except to say I wouldn't know who in the world would breed those ugly little things in the page starfox just posted anyway!!! )

Just to answer something already brought up here about the Pekes, Maltese and Toy Poodle - alot of reputable breeders wont sell small, fragile breeds such as these to families with children as even those who swear their children are "gentle" you never really know, do you? Monties breeder would never sell one of her Paps to a family with children, and nor would I (when I start breeding...).

Oh and

had a gorgeous sunset red coat, and who laid in my arms on her back and completely trusted that I would never hurt a hair on her little head.
.... what the???!!! Why would you hurt a dog anyway? Is this saying she abused the other dogs? God, all I can say is DIMWIT!

Im sorry,i should have made my intentions clear  . I was just posting the tread to show you how silly the whole designer breed thing has become.

I was shocked to see one womans development of a breed and knew you would appreciate the stupididy of this woman

Just to make it absolutely clear I am NOT the breeder of these dogs. Dont get me wrong I love mutts as much as I love any other dog,as my beloved furkid is in fact a Staffy/GSD.

But I believe in searching through shelters looking for your 'designer dog' as Im sure one has already been 'invented' and is lonely and unwanted in an animal shelter. There is no need to breed these beautiful creatures creating more trouble in finding homes for the many just like them, whom also dont have the $100's price tag!!

I agree 110%. The other day I went to petfinder and typed in labradoodle and more then a dozen dogs came up. It just sickens me

Oh ya mutts rule! I wouldn't change my two for anything.
I've actually gotten snobbed by a few peoole when I say they're mutts, oh well its all good to me

I love the surprise that comes with them too, we expected Chaos to be really tall cause of her LONG legs but shes a little squirt, and perfect the way she is. Just like your (I THINK it was you anyway, sorry if I'm wrong)
old signature said, they're 5 dogs in one!

Ocherese? :x Oh God, what will they think of next? A good breeder leaves the coat texture and color for last. Most important would be health and temperment. I can't belive her friend just "had a Maltese" to give away! How would she allow her to breed it in the first place?

This sickened me the most:

My Pek-A-Poo came in season, and I had no one else to breed her with, so I used this very willing, lovable Maltese.

Most breeders will plan YEARS before the actual breeding takes place. This just plain disgusts me! I bet she was just sitting in the kitchen and suddenly came up with the idea to breed the Maltese to the Pek-A-Poo. Don't most small dogs have problems during giving birth? I know that Pugs need C-sections sometimes since they're too small or something. Aren't Peke-A-Poos small too? Isn't a Maltese bigger? I'm not sure.... but what I am sure of is that this breeder is NO RESPONSIBLE breeder! AND I would never buy a pup from her, wether she bred "designer" dogs or REAL breeds!

Come on! THERE ARE ENOUGH MIXES AT THE POUND! THEY GIVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF LOVE! :-?

brennies_ma, please, please, please, please with a cherry on top join us! :D And show us a pic of your wonderful boy! I would love for you to join us! :)

this is Freebee - she's a mix, a non-deliberate one - she sheds little, she has an attitude and she loves me more than anyone....

she looks after me, protects me, licks my feet ( bad habit, but I cant break her of it) licks my other dogs ears...when my son is sick she lays on
the couch with him and wont get up, even to go out, unless he does...
NO ONE is allowed to be sick, depressed, sad or lonely around her.
She is IN YOUR FACE until you are better...

she was not deliberately bred this way...that's how she turned out, with , a loving mom (me) and understanding...there are SOOOO
many shelter dogs out there, needing homes...my other dog is a resuce..
purebred Foxhound, Field Trialed, would have been put to sleep after
her "career" ended, except there are rescue societies for them.
WHY create new breeds? There are already TOO many dogs without homes....

Totally agreed. Although I have come across a few cases where the person just couldn't find the right dog (Val, who is getting a Labradoodle, she made a couple posts, and has joined as POGO, welcome Val  )
I really believe that there are enough dogs out there to choose from.......

her's is a (arrgghhhh, Goldendoodle) and we decided Pogo was better - LOL

in that case I can understand the desire for a specially mixed dog. Just like I understand the reason behind Golden Labs...she is into hunting, and this mix would make an excellent hunting dog...however, what I object to is the people who create these mixes, and sell them as "Labradoodles" and "Goldendoodles" and try to pass them off as a purebred, while charging purebred prices for them. Pogo knows what she's getting,
and wants that mix, but some people get roped in by the hype and buy
these dogs, then discover that there are health, breeding and soundness
issues. I am a mutt person myself (so I own a Purebred Foxhound? LOL)
but my Foxhound was a rescue...I personally prefer rescues, but not
everyone does...

and Brinnie? warn us next time.....

I got my very first dog ever a little over a year ago as a Christmas present... and I have been in love ever since! He is a Maltese-Pekignese mix, but knowing what I know NOW about what health problems these poor little guys go through, I would never recommend breeding them. Otto is a beautiful dog with a hysterical personality, but he has breathing problems that rival collapsing trachias. Word to the wise, stick with the breeds the Good Lord gave us.
