Dont worry about it Abker - there are a lot of people saying the same thing. They now have some wildlife specialists saying the cat attacked,
others saying he was trying to help Roy, and Siegfrried still insists it was an accident....we may never know....

Alot of the wildlife specialists believe it was an attack because cats are wild animals, which could be so....but other people, like me, who have followed S&R for most of their career, believe differently...I see some holes in both theories, so it's hard to tell. I personally dont believe the cat attacked him, but that's JMO....

the only thing I'll say on the "did it attack him or save him?" debate: the tiger had him by the back of the neck. The kill zone. He punctured the skin. but he did not give the kill bite. the kill bite is as second nature as sharpening claws--watch your cat--heck, watch your DOG--play with a toy...the kill bite instinct DOES NOT GO AWAY. Even if they do not eat what they kill, no predator forgets or hesitates on the kill bite. the tiger did not deliver the kill bite, even with blood in his mouth...I think he "saved" him, not attacked him.

It doesnt appear to be a defect, just a case of mating two tigers with the recessive gene,,,kinda like yellow labs.

Scientific Name: Panthera tigris

White tigers are very rare and can only really be seen in zoos. There are somewhere between 30-90 white tigers in US today. White tigers are not a different species of tiger, they are just white-colored Bengal tigers. They are not albino either, they have blue eyes, a pink nose, and creamy white fur with black/brown stripes. White tigers are rare because they only occur when two tigers mate and both carry the gene for white coloring. Males grow to be about 105-125 inches in length, while females grow to about 95-105 inches long. A tiger's tail alone is 3 to 4 feet long. Male tigers weigh anywhere from 419-569 pounds. Females weigh slightly less, between 221-353 pounds.

so it looks like it happens in nature, but I agree with your point that it may make it hard for the cat to survive in the wild...

I read somewhere all captive white tigers are decended from one male white tiger that they caught in India. Apparently no one's seen a wild white tiger in 100 years or something. You probably don't see them because they don't survive to adulthood.

I just want to say ... I hope Roy recovers 100% from this and I admire his loyalty to his animals.
I too don't believe the tiger meant to kill him, I think he could've been ripped apart right then and there, if the tiger had wanted to. :-?
S & R love their animals and treat them far better than some humans treat their own young. :o Geez maybe they could adopt me ??

Get better soon Roy !!
