Here's a letter I just submitted to our local newspapers editorial page. I hope they publish it and I hope the idiot I am referring to reads it. She really acted like she could care less that her dog left a huge pile along the walkway at the park. I was really steamed, had to mull it over before I could even sit down and write this.

To the irresponsible dog owner who refused to clean up after her dog at a local park even though offered a plastic bag, shame on you. It is the actions of those like you who provide fodder for anti dog-friendly legislation. I enjoy taking my dogs places, in turn my dogs enjoy socializing with other dogs and people. I carry plastic bags with me, usually more than I anticipate needing so I can offer one to a person such as yourself. No one wants to see or step in the results of your dog's eliminations. To an extent, cleaning up after your dog on YOUR property is an option, on anyone else's property, INCLUDING county or state, it is never an option. We must, as dog owners be vigilant and meticulous when we take our dogs out in public. Your arrogance in saying you had a bag 'in the car' was astounding. The bag in the car was doing you no good at all was it? Your lack of responsibility also showed in that at least one of your dogs was not even wearing a collar. Perhaps you are also the sort who will dump your dog(s) at the pound when they are no longer convenient to own.

Good job... hopefully they publish it for her to read! Ugh, I hate it when I see people's dogs running free everywhere, and barely ANYONE pics up after their dogs! Dogs are allowed at Cottonwood Park as long as their onlead and picked up after, but people rarely do! When we had our Agility Demo there a few years back then my trainer handed bags out to all the people in our class, and made sure all the dogs were picked up after.

"The bag's in the CAR???"

was she planning on going back for it, then coming back to clean up?
yea, RIIIGGHHHTTTTTTTTTT....

The arrogance of some people is amazing....
Because of people like her, **I** get yelled at in the neighborhood if my dog sniffs around someone's tree....They come out screaming that my dog BETTER NOT **** on their lawn!!!

(which she never does, but I carry bags with me anyway, just in case.)

It's people like that that will get the dog parks closed.....

I confess to having run out of bags a couple times on long outings. When this happens I look for other dog owners who might have extra baggies, so for those of you who have helped other dog owners this way - thank-you. As for the woman who would not accept an extra baggie so she could clean up . . . :niedowiary: :nono: You would think that even if she was the sort to not give a rat's behind about cleaning up after her dog she would at least comply due to the social pressure when confronted.

If Carol is very young (like a teenager or a young adult), unfortunately, in our society, people feel they dont need to pay any attention to someone who is "just a kid"....(wrong attitude - today's kids will be tomorrows
leaders, and have not yet been folded into a set way of thinking about everything).....and some people just dont give a damn what anyone esle thinks. I like the idea of her stepping in someone elses pile....or better yet, have her run into a Park Ranger, who will read her the riot act (then
throw her out!!)

DogPaddle, I must confess I too have been caught off guard once or twice. I used to stuff 3 bags in my pocket, one for each dog. Then one day Jesse decided he had to poo a second time after I had used all the bags! I was embarrassed, luckily it was a truly tiny amount, probably what didn't pop out the first time.

Courtnek, you are right that some people do not accept info or instruction from one younger, now I am probably at least twice that gals age! :D
MY problem is that when confronted with a flippant I-could-care-less attitude like she had, I get steamed pretty quickly and have to walk away before I just lose my religion...er all my manners!

he he he....

You and Me BOTH....except I have no self control in these situations, and would not have steamed off and calmed down - I would have read her the riot act right then and there, but that's me....

Does that explain why NO ONE in my office will cross me?

Some people just need a good reality check. Something like, in the name of "helpfulness" of course, using your bag to pick up the poo for her, following her to her car, dumping the contents on her car hood and telling her you need your bag back, but since she has one in the car (making sure to smile sweetly as you depart)...

Some people just don't care. It makes it tougher on those of us who do. I hope your rant makes it into the paper and Miss GotRocks reads it.

People like that give the rest of us dog owners a bad name. I would be furious! I have experienced the horrible humiliation of walking in a smelly pile and then having to be around people in small confined areas...mean while every ones looking at me as if my hygine is not the best! :drinking: embarrassing! I always keep dog poop bags with me...I order them through a pet supply dealer.....they come in a tiny little plastic container you can easily fit 15 in your hand bag ( I carry a back pack when out with my dogs) I would never leave a big pile behind from one of my Newfoundland dogs....that would be nasty! :o
I really hope your letter gets published....I think another thought that should be rammed into these unsanitary folks heads is the fact that round worms eggs are passed in the stools of our dogs (if they have round worms....some times owners are not aware as they are some times hard to detect unless you have a fecal done every once in awhile) if a child happens to be playing in soil or grass which an infected dog has had a bowel movement and they touch their face or inadvertly put their fingers in their mouth, they can be infected with the round worm...the worst thing is the round worm in the human host takes a different migration tour....round worms in children can be very harmful and cause many problems.

Thanks to all for your words of support. I actually did consider bagging it and placing it on the hood er bonnet 8) of their car. I walked back around towards it from the other direction but missed seeing it the second time. The sun was in my eyes and I think I just missed it. I certainly did not see the knuckledraggers pick it up. Kinda wish I had hunted it down now so I could leave their 'gift' on their car.

OTOH, my dogs are getting FAR too used to going to the park every day now that I'm not working. I see the begging, the demanding, the c'mon mom hurry looks!
