I was wondering if anyone was familler with the drug Rimadyl. It is a medication for arthritis and hurt joins, and will make a dog feal like a puppy again, under a week. I also know that everyone says that "Theroticly" the drug can lead to kidney and/or liver damage. I have been working as a vet tech for a bit over a year now, and i have seen about 5 or 6 cases where we belive that this was the case. While it seems that if it is perscribed for 10 days to 2 weeks there is no problem, lifelong medication of this looks bad in my eyes.

I guess the real question i am trying to ask, is if anyone knows the accutal numbers of fatalties from this drug due to liver/kidney damage?
thank you
Zac

No idea of the fatalities but we had a German Shepherd who was on Rimadyl for arthritis (he died earlier this year aged 16- old age more than anything else :( )- it worked well for him, in fact gave him a new lease of life, with no bad side effects. I do understand it's not for every dog and in fact can be very nasty in some cases. :-?

I know it can be a merical medication. For minor pain we will usually perscribe Cosiquin (glucomiene) and i know it works amazingly well, and some people sware by it. However, it was also taken out of the market in the USA for humans.
Thanks everyone!!!
