Guest Anonymous Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Do you have a dog(s) that have passed away that you miss very much? They are family. Quote
imported_nea Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 I've known several dogs that have died, but none of them were mine, they were my aunts. But they were still family! And no matter how much time goes by I'll still miss them and never ever forgett them. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Yes. My first dog was a beagle mix named Lil' Bit cause he had a little bit of everything. I grew up with him and loved him so much. He died at the age of 15 when I was 6. My second dog was mostly german shepherd with a little lab. His name was Nicky, and he was my best friend and protector. He died a year after Lil Bit at the age of 12, after only having been with us for 4 years. Quote
Aonir Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Ive had several dogs die - not mine. But a family dog that I had growing up just recently died... Along with her son (in family but havent seen since it was a pup - 10yrs ago) Quote
Angelboddy Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 Yes. I had a black lab that got hit by a car and passed away when I was only 17 years old. My labs name was Nostalgic, and she was only a year old. I found her on the side of the road on febuary 14th..................Valentines day. :( I miss her and love her very much. Quote
courtnek Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 I have lost many dogs, most to old age and complications, one to illness I couldnt do anything about..... Taurus (my First dog, Golden Retriever) died of old age. Jarvis (died of old age and kidney complications) Alex (died of blastomycosis - a fungal infection he breathed in) They all go sometime. I just hope to make their lives easier and as long as possible. Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 I have never hurt as much in my entire life as I hurt last year when I lost my beloved ol' dilapidated Yorkie (seen in my avatar). He was only with us for a little over a year (he was old when we adopted him), but we could never have prepared ourselves for the impact he made on our lives and the heartache we would feel over losing him. We knew we were basically just there to make him as comfortable as possible until the end, but there was no way I could have known how much his loss would hurt. You'd think we would have been prepared, knowing how old and frail he was. He was old, deaf, blind, jawless and had to be handfed, virtually senile, had seizures, had lived through the worst life could throw at him and cast off in his old age. His tenacity and his will to not only survive, but THRIVE despite the worst will remain with us always. I swear he was sent to us as a gift. It's hard to explain, but it's been exactly a year (9-1) since he left us and his impact lives on. I am a much better person than I was before him. Yorkies were never my breed of choice, but THAT Yorkie will always be a part of me. There will always be dogs in my life and I love them all, but I just can't imagine ever being moved in that way again. I could be wrong, but it just seems impossible that I could ever feel that kind of hurt again. Quote
Sanvean Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Oh, HF, he must have been really special. This particular dog was not MINE (Macy is my first dog), but I loved him very much. He was my grandparents' dog, Spike...he belonged to my dad when he was a teenager, but Grandma and Grandpa kept him when Dad moved out. He was a black and white springer/setter mix, and he was the sweetest, gentlest dog you ever met. He even chased away their horrendously mean kitty (it's a wonder I ever grew up to like cats!) when she got near me. I remember once he got scolded for stealing hamburgers off the counter and was sitting under the dining room table, pouting. I was about 6 and sat right down there with him. He died probably almost 20 years ago, but when I still see one of those pictures of him wearing a Santa hat, I remember him like it was yesterday. Quote
sheltielover Posted September 15, 2003 Posted September 15, 2003 Our first dog, Lance passed away when I was really young...and I think about him every day. He was our first Collie and was just the greatest!!! He was my best friend. We also had another dog that passed away 6 years ago, named Sherman. That took me forever to deal with when he passed. We had him for over 13 years before he passed......it just didn't seem like enough time.  Quote

imported_Debbie Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 I have lost 2 important dogs in my life; :( The first one was a dog I got as a puppy when I was 12yr. old. She was a German Shepherd X , her name was Hildegarde (Hildy for short) She was the smartest dog, she followed me everywhere.... my mom used to say she knew exactly where I was in the neighborhood because Hildy would be waiting.... She was well mannered and never acted out. When we would walk to the store for gallon jugs of milk she would carry one home !! She loved it ! She was also very protective of me and would put on quite the show if she thought I was being threatened. She even slept in bed with me and had her own pillow. She was a one in a million dog .......... She died of old age, she would've been 14 the year she died. My next dog was named Nakita, she was an Akita/Rott mix. I got her in 1996. She was my constant companion, loyal, protective of my family. I couldn't go to the bathroom without her !! I do Daycare and she was so tolerant of the kids , they could do anything to her and she loved them. The day she died was the worst day of my life so far.... she would've been 15 the year she died and she died in my arms....   Quote
imported_Kat Posted September 16, 2003 Posted September 16, 2003 Thankfully not yet. I have a Golden who is over 12 now and I will miss her a lot when she goes (touch wood she will still have a bit to wait yet!), but when my Border Collie Meg goes I will be more than devastated. She is my heart dog and so very special to me. Quote
