Horsefeathers! Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 How nice! I had a deaf (and blind and senile) dog, but he died last year :( . I know the effort it takes to be able to communicate with them. Good luck on your site! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 9, 2003 Posted September 9, 2003 Thank you! i just hope the word gets out so that more people will be able to use the resources of other deaf dog owners. i'm not sure how to get it to show up on a search so i'm relying on word of mouth Quote

Aonir Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 I had a blind dog once.. She was old and when she lost her hearing, she was PTS.. She ran into everything was began having open sores from it :( Now one of my grandmas dogs is going deaf. She doesn't know how to handle a deaf dog and she has a bad temper :o Patience isn't in my family. Where did I come from?? lol Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 Great idea! Wonderful site and idea! :D I'll be sure to join... Quote
imported_Cassie Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 I think its great your starting your own forum, its wonderful to have a support group and others you can discuss special topics with! good for you! Speaking of deaf dogs the whole dog journal has a great article on training deaf dogs....its call "deaf-initely trainable!!! I have started to read it but havent gotten that far yet! For all of my dogs when it comes to obedience I train both sign and voice commands. Its wonderful when your dogs all resond to a hand signal...I have freaked a few people out doing this and having all 5 dogs go from sit, to down, to sit again with out uttering a word and being very coy about the hand signals.. I have done this training for voice/signal training because you never know when you dog is going to lose one of its senses and you have to have a back up plan. Good Luck to you... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 thank you cassie :) i love freaking people out by using signlanguage. lol if you tell zoey something she wont do it until you sign to her.. lol stubbron.. Quote
courtnek Posted September 10, 2003 Posted September 10, 2003 I train mine with both voice and hand signals, especially the "down" and "stay"....do you mean real sign language? Like deaf people use? or regular hand signals used for training dogs? I would LOVE to see a dog respond to real sign language!!! You could get a spot on America's funniest animals or something!! Or that best trained dog show.... Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted September 11, 2003 Posted September 11, 2003 :o :o lol   i use REAL SIGN LANGUAGE.. asl : ) Quote
