I was in Spanish class today, and my teacher said something about fasting. (Like when u don't eat at all for 1 day, usually sun up to sun down) Well, I got to thinking about it, and earlier in the day I had been trying to figure out something that I could do to honor/remember the dogs that have been abused, and then died as a result. (Ex. Chica, the Chi that came from a puppy mill, I believe Sanvean posted the link, and the dog from the story "I never knew her name" she was an Aussie.)
So this is what I'm planning on doing: On Sept. 26 (A Friday, and I still might change the date) I will not eat from sun up to sun down in memory of a dog that was killed as a result of some kind of abuse. I haven't picked the dog I want to honor yet, but I will soon. I'll also be lighting a candle for that dog, which I'll leave burning all day. Before the sun sets, I'm going to do sorta like a candle light visual, (I think that's what it's called  ) and basically will take a walk, with the candle, in memory of this dog. (A lot of people in my city did this after 9/11) I already have two friends willing to do this with me. I'm inviting u ALL to take part in this. U will pick a dog that u want to remember, and in honor of it, light the candle, and fast. What do ya'll think? Is it a good idea? I'm also hoping this will help raise awareness about animal abuse. I'm hoping that when I do the walk with the candle, people will ask what it is for, then I can tell them my dog's "story". I'll also get alot of questions from kids at my school, and teachers, because I won't be eating that day. Please give me any input on this, I want to know what ya'll think. :D

If you call that fasting, then I used to do that every day :o

I never ate til 9pm every night.....

My defination for fasting is not eating for 'days'. I'd also like to say that NOT eating is bad! Very very bad..

Oh, thanks for makin' that point Aonir.
Sheltie, thanks. :buzi: I'm sorry u can't do the fasting part, but u can still pick a dog and light a candle in memory if u'd like. :D

I do love the candle idea! Although I hate candles, lol. Fiance loves them. I would do the fasting part, but my doctor would be mad at me again :o Don't want that! Oh, have you ever seen those candles in shape of dogs? My grandma has one and they are so cute!

We have candles suronding a water fountain... Fire and water... Its interestigng. But I worry about the cats knocking them off because they drink out of the water fountain!

Thats a great idea! :) I'd like to do the candle part, but if I don't eat then I faint (and whenever I faint I hit my head, and either do or almost do get a concossion) and thats not so good. And I have to go to school too... But I'd like to do the candle part.

I found my Pup in memories of.

Meet Hanna.............

Here is her story.
In Memory Of Hanna
Dog
Weimaraner

Size: Large
Age: Adult
Sex: Female
I.D: 02-019

Notes: Please read Hanna's story, and visit The American Heartworm Society for more vital information about this disease.

Sweet Hanna. This little darling came to us in terrible shape. We knew that Hanna was heartworm positive, she was skin and bones, and she was in advanced stages of heartworm disease. We took her anyway, to offer her a chance at life. We worked to put some weight on Hanna before starting heartworm treatment, and on December 4, she had her first treatment to rid her of the heartworms. Hanna was doing great during the first week, she seemed to be responding well.
On the 10th, she did have a setback, she went into shock and was taken immediately to the vet. She returned home on the afternoon of the 10th, and was resting comfortably all evening. Late evening, she was having another coughing attack, and was going into shock again. She was rushed to the emergency clinic where she spent the night in ICU, being cared for minute by minute. On the morning of the 11th, Hanna was transferred to hospital care with our regular vet. Hanna seemed to be doing fine, and was livening up with all the love and attention she received from the staff. On Friday night, her foster mom stopped in and hand-fed Hanna, just to spoil her, and the two hung out together for a short while. Hanna's tail was wagging fiercely, she loved the attention.
The vet clinic called at about 11pm on Friday night... Hanna had had a third and final attack, and they were unable to bring her back. It was the last thing anyone expected, because she was doing so well. Her heartworm was so advanced, she just couldn't handle the battle going on inside her heart and lungs.
Please take a moment today to think a good thought for Hanna, and hug your own dogs. When was the last time you had them tested for heartworm? Are they on preventative? Don't let something like this happen to your dog. Hanna suffered because of an irresponsible owner who didn't take the time to give her the care she needed. It is our hope that Hanna's loss will be a reminder to many about the real danger of heartworm, and perhaps some other dogs will be saved because of her story.

I don't have time to read the story now, but I'll scan through it later on. That dog is beautiful, good choice Lucky.

I've decided that I will be doing the Aussie. But she has no name. I know that I didn't ever meet the dog, that I didn't rescue her, or no the person that did, but I feel she should have a name, even if it's just a "temporary" one, for this Memory dogs thing. Is that wrong? Should I just keep her as no name? Or shall I go ahead and name her? :-? :-? :-? :-?

Abker, that is such a wonderful idea! You are an angel! :lilangel:

I choose Lucy, the poor doggie! :( Can you believe the charges where DROPPED? I will fast all day, AND light a candle for her. Hey, let's e-mail Lisa Marie (The person who made the website and witnessed the abuse) and tell her what we are doing. I am sure she will be thrilled!

Abker, you are such a sweet soul! This is the greatest idea, ever! :buzi: Way to go! I can't wait!

I'd like to do Sally, a dog who lives in Spain. She was found near a mall, where kids were "entertaining" themselves by throwing rocks and stones at her. She lives at an dog rescue place now called SOS (Spay Our Strays). She doesn't trust anyone, except for teh person who runs the shelter.

But I'll keep looking too. I don't know that much about Sally, so it might be better to choose another dog. I don't know.
