I was walking in the same park That I found Holly in when I saw a sign.
I couldn't really tell by the picture cause it was black and white but the sign said:

Lost! Female Yellow Labrador mix.
Please help Sheba get home, We miss her very much.
Reward!
and a phone number.

I'm almost sure this is Holly, But why did the sign just go up now? We've had her for a month! And I called the humane society everyday for a week, and the animal control and the police!

I know I should do the right thing and call.....But I love this dog!
I know she's not mine, but thses people didn't even get her spayed, they don't sound like responsible dog owners.

What should I do??? I know I have to do the right thing but.............

ok.. There as a story here some time ago.

Someone lost their dog, and someone found it. They seens the signs of the dog, but didn't give it back. They decided to keep the dog, even though they knew who the owner was.

Which do you think is right? To satisfy you want for the dog, or return her to her family?

You can't judge these people..... you don't have all the facts. They may have children at home who really miss their dog :( Maybe you can talk to them about having her fixed and proper care. Maybe it was meant that YOU find this dog to help her :D

Good luck!!

Ok, I called. They said that they went on vacation for the summer and left the dog in the care of a friend, but when they got back the friend said the dog had run away. I know I have to do the right thing no matter how hard, but I can't help wishing that Holly's not the dog there looking for, even though I hope they find their dog. I'm going to meet them right now, They live pretty close to where we found Holly.

Does she have any distinguishing characteristics that they can describe?

A friend of mine was fostering a Pom that someone found in a park. She put an ad in the paper, but the only person who called said she left the dog in her yard all day, didn't know how much she weighed and had never taken her to the vet. My friend thought it probably was this woman's dog, but she couldn't bear the idea of returning her. She agreed told the woman she didn't think it was her dog, and since the woman apparently had no interest in coming to see whether she was or not, my friend just kept her :)

:D

Test the dog's name, if the dog doesn't know that name I would keep her based on one of two decisions, either it's not that dog or the people are so irresponsible that they didn't even take the time to teach the dog her name.

Awww Steph, your poor thing! I hope everything goes okay, and it's not their dog after all. Holly deserves a home with you! But you never know, the people could be responsible and didn't get her spayed for specific reasons. I hope everything goes well and please keep us updated! :)

Well Holly's gone....Thanks everyone I know I did the right thing. The people were actually very nice. They went on vacation and left the dog with a neighbour, but the neighbour though she was a neusience so he was planning on tying her up and coming to feed her once a day.

I'm also pretty sure that this person abused her cause the owners were so surprised when I told them she was afraid of certain people. They were an elderly couple, and just haden't had the time to spay her,.
But Holly...erm Sheba really seemed happy to see them. They wanted to pay me for looking after her, but I told them to use the money to get her spayed. They also said I could visit her whenever I want, so she's not totally gone.

I actually feel really good about re-uniting her with her owners, legally I could have kept her, since I took all measures to find her owners, but I just wouldn't fel right. I know she'll be really happy now, although she did keep looking back at me when she walked away, like she was saying "why aren't I going with you?"

But it was for the best. :D  :D

awe! I agree with the testing the name thing! I hope everything works out for the best! If their good owners and it's their dog, maybe you guys can work something out so you can still visit her?

 You were strong, and you did the right thing for "Sheba" and her owners. If Holly was happy to see them, she must have had a good home with them.

I hope they do get her spayed.....and don't leave her with the neighbor again! Perhaps you could be her dog sitter if her owners have to go on a trip again! :D

:D

I would call them back and volunteer to keep Sheba while she recovers from the spay surgery. Tell them to keep your number and that you will be more than happy to puppy-sit for them and if they are ever in a position to have to give her up, you want first dibs.

I know it's hard but you did the right thing. I agree with the others, if they live close keep in touch and then maybe you can mind her if they go away again or you can even set up play dates with her and Lucky and Chaos.

Again - good work :D

You did the right thing. I know it's hard, I didnt want to give up the yellow lab I found, and her owner is IRREsponsible. But the elderly need their
dogs, and my find had kids who missed her terribly....

I think dog-sitting and visiting is a good thing. The people would probably
love to have a young person around to talk to as well.

I am sorry you had to let her go. My heart goes out to you.
