I'm considering getting a foxhoud for me and Freebee - they are supposed to be good with dogs and cats, intelligent, trainable, and the one I want to adopt is a bit older and very mellow.

However, I have never owned a hound. I read up on them, and they seem like very nice dogs, but do any of you have any personal info on them?

Quirks? Oddities? things the shelter wont tell me? (lol)

thanks

No, that one was adopted by someone else. This is from the same shelter tho, they have alot of them up for adoption. They are part of a foxhound rescue society, and these are all field trained dogs. They actually hunted.

The one I am interested in is called Laurel, she is 7 years old (they rescue them when their field career is over) and she is listed as being very mellow and good with dogs, cats and people. I am concerned tho, because
reading up on them they say dont trust them with non-canine pets. Not that I think PushyCat has anything to worry about, he'll whip her into shape in no time. He hasnt met a dog yet that wouldnt move out of his way when he enters the room....

She i slisted as being very good with all animals, and they have cats at the foster home....I was just looking for some personal info, if anyone has any, about them. I have never owned a hound....I think that category and Toys are about the only two common category of dog I HAVENT owned
in 30 years...

Most hounds have a tendancy to follow their noses so you may have big recall problems !!

Yea, that I know. Labs are the same way. It's hunting dog/bird dog/hounddog thing. They smell something, they want it NOW....
Freebee is recall trained (repeatedly!!!) but if something gets her interest,
she's off like a shot....

That's what fenced yards and leashes are for!! LOL

I honestly think that hunting dogs would all come back, except I dont live somewhere where letting them loose is viable - I wish I could!!

gotta start buying those Lotto tickets again...
