Mary's Mama Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Just looking for some personal opinions, no right or wrong answer here. Some of you may have seen the new jack pups I posted on the picture board. Well we are trying to decide if we should get one. Let me give you some info on our situation. We close on our first home September 19 (the pups will be ready to go home the first week of Oct.). We are and have been saving a lot of money to be ready for the closing, then once we get in we have a number of things to purchase (refridgerator, guest bed, armoir, lawn mower, etc, etc) We also need to install a fence at the new house. We both really want to get another pup, but we are not sure now is the time with all the money issues. We aren't broke, but just not sure if we should add another expense. There will be another litter in Dec, however I am not really found of the female they are using for that litter. I will probably fall in love with those pups just as easily. So in our situation would you wait or go for it? And for fun, if you got to name a pup tomorrow, name your favorite boy and girl names. Here are the two candidates: Boy Female Quote
Aonir Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Considering the money expenses, I'd suggust you wait until the next litter. The last thing you need is to get a puppy that requires shots, spay/nuetering, heartworm meds, etc. and buying a house..! The bills would be hard to pay off.. and add a lot of stress on you. Quote
Aroura Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 If you feel you can afford it I'd get one now, otherwise if you get one from the female you don't like as much you will always be wondering about those other pups, even though you love the one you have the thoughts will still be there. Oh, and the other reason, that widdle boy!!!! Oh he is such a cutie!!! As Horsefeathers and K say, the more the hairier!!! :D As a boys name, maybe Ricco, Mickey or Peppie la Pooch!!! Hehe, maybe not that last one! For a girl, Amber, Tahlia or Princess. Keep us updated, they are just adorable!!! Post them on the cutest puppy thread!!! Quote
stacer126 Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 I agree. I think you should wait and if you get a boy I love it when people name it Jack. I have hundreds of suggestions for names. I would be happy to suggest some. Quote
Angelboddy Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 If you think you can afford it, then go for it. That little girl is cute. I love the two different eyes. I am not to sure about the names, they still seem alittle small to be naming yet. I would wait to see their personalitys come out. :D Quote
stacer126 Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 You could name her Jackie. For some reason I like that for a Jack Russel. I have a huge list at home with names, I should bring that stuff to work with me. Here are some for a girl..... Jackie (like I mentioned before). Jewel Charley Bradie Brandie Lexie Lexus Indy - for the Molson Indy because the cars are fast Can't think of anymore. I guess I have to think about work stuff now  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 We do have the money to take care of a 3rd. It hasn't been but 3 weeks since Bo passed and at that time we were taking care of 3. It is just the first 6 months of shots and then desexing that is a little expensive. Added with the new house, I dunno. We still can't decide what to do. But for names we were thinking about Penny Lane for the girl and Griffin for the boy. Not sure which to get, we have to wait for personalities. We both really like the girl but with jacks you have to be careful with aggression between females. If she is easy going then we will probably get her, if it looks like she might not have a home. Oh how I wish I could have 10 and be rich!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Oh forgot to say, in re: to the names. Jack and Jackie are definite no-no's!!! There has to be about 10 million jacks and jackettes with those names. In case you can't tell (Mary Jane and Stewart) I like human names not normally thought of for animals. Never met another Stewart and only one other Mary. I think Mary Jane and Penny Lane would be so cute!! Quote
Aonir Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 I like the name Patches too. I can't wait to get a puppy/kitty that I can call that. How about the names Claws or Paws? Kidding! Lacy (like shoe laces, puppies love shoes) Venus (girl) Baby, Sweety or Honey Clover (they like grass too...) Quote
sheltielover Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 For some reason, I have always wanted a small dog that I could call Scribbles. I just LOVE that name for some reason....unfortunately, hubby found out and started calling me that, and calls the baby Lil' Scribbles. He's so weird... :-? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 19, 2003 Posted August 19, 2003 Awe! Cute babies!! My fave girl names: Jade, Paige, Rayn (pronounced Rain) Fave boy names: Coal (obviously, but you can't have that one! ), Kenny, Colt, Kaiden (I duno why I lik the K sounds) Quote
courtnek Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 For the boy - Gamble or Mischief for the girl - Tiara or Kaitlyn Quote
Aroura Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 K napisaĆ(a):For names I would choose Count Brass for a boy or Yisselda for a girl...niether of which is suited to these pups though.....I prefer the girl...and I would choose the name...Iris.....or Patches...no wait...Marilyn :D LOL, my Auntie has this massive great dane, mastiff cross called Marilyn, its hilarious!!! Hazel, I was going to say Paige too!!! And Sheltie, after all your talk about "little scribbles" I was actually thinking if I got a Pap i might call it Scribbles!!! Penny Lane is cute  Speaking of human names, I had to walk this dog once, its name was Jeanne, even spelt like mine!!! It was so awkward walking around saying "jeanne, come here", lol, maybe if you get the girl you could call it Jeanne  Quote
sheltielover Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 Aroura, I think that would be a PERFECT name for a Pap!!!!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 Well we still can't decide. We sort of think now is not a good time, but we are not sure we want to pass up these pups. And hey when IS a good time? And we will officially be out numbered by Jack Russells, that's definitely something to consider. Oh the agony. We want him SOOOOO bad. The little boy, for the time being is Finnegan (breeders choice). They would like us to keep "fin" in the name (long story). So that is where Griffin came from. Do you all know any other names that contain "fin"? Was he meant to be mine?? Quote
Marble Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 just want to say up front i'm not trying to be obnoxious :) but i know you're in charlotte.... i adopted dresden from the pound up by the airport.....and every so often i go up there to visit all the dogs, the pit bulls in particular since most people won't pet them, and every time i go there i see a lot of small nice dogs.......usually there are several jack russels too......and they need help. not trying to guilt trip but they euthanize on average 1000-1500 animals every month. just a thought :) i do understand wanting to get a purebred dog from a breeder and wanting to know what you are getting into :) Quote
bk_blue Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Ooooh I would be so tempted to get one... :P There is a pub here called Finbar's... don't know if you want to name your dog after a pub though. For a girl Penny Lane is really cute. :D Quote
Aroura Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 sheltielover napisaĆ(a):Aroura, I think that would be a PERFECT name for a Pap!!!!! Yes, Little Scribbles!!! Awww, CUTE!!!  Unfortunatly I don't think I'll be getting litte scribbles for a while yet, I may have found a rescue Pap in Melbourne which is convenient because I'll be in Melbourne in a few weeks (yes Bk, I'm finally making the trip!!!). Main problem is this - ok, dad has fallen in love with the breed thanks to this GORGEOUS pint size little boy at obedience, but the problem is that he has fallen too much in love with him!!! Every time I mention a rescue dog dad tells me I should find out who Mr Wickems breeder is and get a dog from them. He doesn't want me to get a rescue and says if I'm going to get a Papillon I should "do it properly", buy from a breeder etc (Mr Wickems breeder, no others will do), but what I can't work out is how getting a rescue isn't "doing it properly". So unless I can talk him around it looks like no little scribbles for at least a little while... I'm very dissapointed  As for Fin, ummm Finiky? Er, Tuna Fin??? LOL, I don't know! Quote
Aonir Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Here are some boy names with their meanings! I cheated, I went to a baby name web site hehe Findlay - Blond-haired soldier Finlay - Blond-haired soldier Finley - Fair Haired One Finn - Fair Phineas - Loudmouth (could change it to Fineas) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 21, 2003 Posted August 21, 2003 Marble - I completely understand and agree with you. However I am married and so he gets to have a say too. While he likes the idea of rescuing, he doesn't want a "problem" dog. As many of us know sometimes you can explain something til you are blue in the face, and it doesn't make a difference. He is set in his opinion for now, maybe I can persuade him later. If I could find a jack puppy to rescue he would probably go for that. Besides the city pound I also know many people that are actively involved in Russell Rescue. I actually asked my husband if we could become a foster home, he was not amused. And I am just a sucker for a puppy, what can I say? Quote
