abker17 Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 U could try puppy pads. U can buy them at most pet stores.... Quote
DogPaddle Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 If you are going to doggy litter box train him put the puppy pades in the doggy litter box. As was said the puppy pads draw them to go there sometimes. If you will be training him to go outside on walks then it is a great deal more difficult but certainly possible. Take him out after feeding, after drinking, after sleeping after playing and anytime you have in between too. Praise him when he goes outside. You can also make use of a shedule with very freqent trips outside. Never let him out of your site, watch his body language and the second he looks like he might need to go take him out. You can employ a schedule, a crate and a great deal of time and effort for dogs with problems with house training, if you'd like to know more let me know but with a 7 week old pup, accidents will happen, just be patient and keep with it, oh and get a good pet ordour remover for the accidents. pei obssessed Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 K, we live in an apartment, and housebreaking was very easy. It's not my merit though, as much as Hippo's (she was paper trained when she came, and she preferred going on grass, so if taken out every 2 hours, she would only go outside--except at night when I'd be too lazy to get up and the poor puppy would be whining asking out before finally going on some paper  ). So I don't have advice on how to do housebreaking--my pup knew herself  Quote
lizzie Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 well I agree with every thing that was already suggested, but this is what we did, Bozo was already trained  but olive is very sneaky it seemed like every time we took her outside she wouldnt go to the bathroom, we would come back inside and she would poop on the floor, well we live in a duplex and have a big back yard, so we unded up leaving the sliding glass door open so that she could go when ever she wanted to. we took the easy way out!! sheltielover Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Lizzie, we took the easy way out too....we live in a house with decent sized, fenced in back yard....we bought the doggie door for sliding glass doors so the girls could go out and come back in whenever they wanted. Quote
Kiger Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 Why are so many people surprised that puppies pee and poop in inappropriate places? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 26, 2003 Posted July 26, 2003 well thnks but yeah i for the last 3 days i have tried the pads and even a repellent spray but he still likes to go OUTSIDE the pad.....and all oevr the room........is tehre a certain thing taht is gonan be 100% sure to work that hell poop in the pads.........like a scent or something Quote
lizzie Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 ok heres a site that is usually very helpful, also you can E-mail there vets and ask them questions, It states on this page though that some puppy pads are scented with a chemical that makes them want to urnate on it, if he or she misses the pad , try making the pad bigger by putting two pads down next to eachother, and praise him/her when ever he/she pees on the padhttp://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1715&articleid=157 Quote
danyell Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 the is some kind of spray called wee spray or something silly like that ask for it at the pet store. apparently it smells like pee and you can spray it on the pads to get your dog to go there. i haven't tried this but we use the puppy pads and georgia goes on them most of the time - every once in a while she goes outside it but i figure that's just bound to happen. DogPaddle Posted July 27, 2003 Posted July 27, 2003 Just out of curiosity will is your goal to have him doggy litter box trained or to have him trained to go outside only? Quote
