Well we just got back from the vet.
They did a skin test and she does not have mites or mange. :D
They said it is a staf infection. :(
They say thats why she is lossing her hair.
So they gave her a sterroid shot and some antibiotics.
I start giving it to her tonight.
I am suppose to give it to her 3 times a day.
If I don't see any inprovment in a couple days, then I have to bring her back. :(
The vet told me that everything that I am doing is great. :D And to keep up with the benadryl.
She was a good girl at the vets. :D
It was only 36 dollars for the whole thing. :o
I have just one question that I forgot to ask the vet  ........ What is a staf infection, and how do they get it? :hmmmm:

I'm not to sure if she really knew what was causing the itch. :-?
She asked if she was outside a lot, but of course shes not.
Then she flipped her over on her back and saw some little red bumps on the inside of her thighs. Thats when she said she had a staf infection.
She gave a perscription for Cephalexin. Thats what she has to take 3 times daily.
Is this steroid shot going to effect her any?
The vet said, she will just be very thirsty and have to pee a lot. :-?

taken from a bookStaphylococcus Infection

Bacterial infection with one of the types of staphylococcus is one of the commonest infections of the dog
SIGNS skin infections with pustules, erytheme and scaling crusts. The infection may be found in other organs.
CAUSE the bacterium most commonly found causing skin disease of the dod is staphylococcus intermedius. S taphylococci are also found in respiratory infections as well as at other sites of the body
TREATMENT bacterial dermatitis or pyoderma can be difficult to treat unless prolonged courses of antiboitics are used, combined with skin washes of anti-bacterial shampoos. It is considered good practice to take swobs from infected sites for culture in the laboratory to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to use in the dog. based onthe sensitivity tests to a range of the available antibiotics.

staph can be spread by fleas, mites and mosquito's....

so she may have gotten bug bitten and it spreads very quickly. Any bug that sucks or ingests blood can spread staph.....

glad she is getting better!!

Thanks guys! :D
Thanks for all the support you have given Nostalgia and I through this time.
I was a pretty stressed out mommy there for awhile. :o
But we are doing better.
She just has not drank water all day. :(
And the vet said that the steroid shot should make her very thirsty.
She has been pantting all day. :-?
I just hope she starts to drink some water.
I just gave her her first pill......Boy was that hard to do.
I tried to give it to her rolled up in some meat, but nop did not work.
So then i tried to stuff it down her throat, and hold it shut, but all she would do is squirm away and roll her tounge to get it out. By that time the pill was already getting mushy.
Finely i got it down her throat, but she slammed me into the wall during the process.
And she is suppose to have this done three times a day. :o
Tomarrow I work all day so my hubby is going to have to try and give it to her at lunch time.
And you know how he feels about Nostalgia(he just puts up with her)
So this is going to be funny to hear about.

Does she like cheese? Or liverwurst/liver bologna? Max would take his capsules if I would cube the cheese/liver bologna and stuff the capsule inside it. He is a food gulper so once he sniffed the cube he would swallow it right down! Any soft food cube-able food that she likes might work with this method. These happen to be two of Max's favorites.

Max was on Cephalexin. Do a search on the internet and read the symptoms of reaction to this drug in dogs. Most do fine on it; Max had a reaction to it. Never hurts to be prepared and informed.

Good luck on administering the capsules. You can always do the "pop it in their mouth, hold their mouth shut, and stroke their throat" method. I prefer to use trickery whenever possible though. I hate manhandling a sick dog.

My girl Brittany used to get staph infections just about every summer. May have been allergen related, something that bloomed or grew in that time frame irritated her skin and she'd break out in crusty circular sores. We did the antibiotic round over and over. Once I started giving her Missing Link, she stopped getting them. A few months ago, I had stopped the Missing Link. She got a couple of sores, I cleaned them daily and put Neosporin on them and put her back on Missing Link. No more sores.

A trick that might work for Nostalgia and other dogs who are hard to pill. Take some of their favorite treats or meat or soft cheese, break it into little bitty pieces. Usually the first bit of treat they take and taste. They realize this is good stuff and the 2nd and 3rd go down pretty quickly, think GULP! Put the pill in the 4th bit of treat. Bologna works pretty good for me, it's gulp, gulp, gulp and the pill is down. I usually follow the pill with one more straight treat and praise like heck.
Hope this helps and Nostalgia is all better soon.

Thanks Behle and carol.
I will try those methods that you said. :D
Hopefully something will work.
And I will definitely look up that antibiotic that Nostalgia is taking.
Thanks again. :buzi:
