behle Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Have you got too much dog hair at your house? I know I do! There are craftspeople out there on the internet who will make yarn out of the soft undercoat of your dogs! Look at what can be done with dog hair: This scarf was made from Golden Retriever hair! I just love the color. I wonder what color scarf my saint's hair would make? And some people make dog sweaters from their own dog's hair....cool! :D Quote
Carolk9s Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 I have a paper bag at home for the undercoat that gets brushed out of Jesse. Perhaps some day I'll have it spun and knitted into something. Quote
Sanvean Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 WOW! Gorgeous scarf!!! I would get a cream-colored scarf from Macy,. if she shed enough. (I could get a whole sweater from the kitties, I bet!) Quote
Rosebud Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 :D Love the sheen on that scarf. Looks like wool with the added benefit of positively knowing that there is absolutely no way you can get it to shrink. Quote
meehs Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Sorry Rosebud but you probably won't be able to knit any scarves or sweaters out of the shed hair from your Ridgebacks! The same is true for me! Quote

Angelboddy Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Same here with Nostalgias hair, won't have enough super glue.  She sure sheds enough though. Quote
Malamum Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 I think I could fully go into production with all of Indy's fur.  I have even had a friend say she is getting me a spinning wheel for Christmas  Quote

StarFox Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Umm...well..that's intersting. I saw on T.V. once this woman who did that for a living. She was an older woman and had her elderly friends help her make scarves/mittens etc out of dog hair. She literally had barrels of dog hair sitting in her living room. Hmm...I wonder if the scarves would smell if it got wet? Say like in the rain? I sure wouldn't want to be walking around smelling of wet dog. Quote
behle Posted July 17, 2003 Author Posted July 17, 2003 I read that they wash the fur several times. Also, many use an odor neutralizer as well! So you wouldn't have to go around smelling like a wet dog. :D Unless you like the smell of your wet dog!  Quote
Rosebud Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003   Oooh I can see it now, someone asking you what perfume you are wearing and you reply "Wet-dog in heat" Quote
