behle Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 Max's leg where he had his surgery is hot! I am concerned about it. His incision is healing nicely, and the drain tube hole on the outside of his leg is healing well. But the drain tube hole on the inside of his knee is looking bad and his leg around that area is hot to the touch. I've been cleaning it with a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton pad. This "second choice" antibiotic doesn't seem to be doing the trick. He's really not eating. So tomorrow morning I am calling Max'x regular vet to have him take a look. Poor Max! :-? Quote
Malamum Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 I'm sorry I can't offer any suggestions or advice, but please let us know how he is doing after you've seen the vet. Quote
IYPChrissie Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Sorry to hear about Max, I am glad you are bringing him in. I also think I heard the heat means infection :-? I hope he is ok!! Please do let us know :D Quote
StarFox Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 The side where Zebra had his dranage tube is hot too. I am also concerned about this. My mom told me that heat is usually sign of an infection. :-? I know that when Zebra is on antibiotics he dosn't eat much at all. Maybe it's the same with your Max. Quote
behle Posted July 14, 2003 Author Posted July 14, 2003 Well, we are back from our vet...and I feel slightly like an overprotective mom. Turns out (Starfox - you might be interested in this) that the weeping of the drain tube is normal as the hole heals from the inside out. The warmth or heat is also within normal parameters. Plus his weight loss is only about 2 pounds since the start of this whole surgery thing. BUT....what was not normal (as I suspected) is that ALL of his lymph glands are swollen, not just the one in his groin area. So, they drew some blood and are going to run a full screen on it. It is not typical for all the glands to be blown up. He was running only a very slight temp...that could be accounted for by his anxiety and closeness of the exam room. NOW...I have to wait for a phone call to see if there is a problem such as lymphoma... :o or if he is normal and the swelling of the glands is just a quirky fluke. More worry.... :-? He was a good boy.....but he was awfully glad to be going home! Thanks for your concern every one! It means a lot. Quote
