marion Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Been mum's tonight, first time I've seen her since she came home from hospital on Friday. :( One of her legs is ulcerated again :( and she has open red raw wounds on it, :( it looks bloody painful and she was crying when I got there. Got her some painkillers but couldn't do much else straight away because as some of you know, as soon as I arrive Cleo starts twirling round in circles and yapping for me to take her out. Well she's 13 now but she ran like the wind over the field, her eyesight is going slightly so I have to clap to let her know where I am otherwise she follows other people thinking they're me(everyone thinks I'm cracking up) :o :o By the way, the district nurse had been today to dress my mum's arm and leg. My mum told her the dry dressings she was putting on were chafing the open sores every time she moved and she'd had to take them off. What did she do, put the same bloody things back on again. I have had to do her legs on many occasions after the nurse has been, she says they always feel more comfortable, but I put loads of antibacterial cream on under the dressing so they don't chafe. Anyway got everything ready to do this and noticed Cleo was acting strange, she staggered to her bed and had trouble getting in it, she was lolling sideways, shaking and her breathing sounded funny. Apparently she's had these before but I'd never seen them. She put the fear of GOD up me, I got down on the floor next to her bed to comfort her and she tried to get to me (a few inches) and couldn't. I stroked and kissed her, then managed to gently pick her up and put her on my knee. I kissed, kissed, kissed and more kissed hoping it would go away. Eventually she came out of it, I think it must of been some sort of fit. So there I was Mum crying in agony, dog fitting and not knowing who I should see to first, but had to comfort Cleo, I really thought she was dying and I love her so much(don't mean I don't love my mum). Her bed was all lumpy, nobody had shook it for her, took it outside and really gave it a good shake, she jumped in it like nothing had happened and snuggled right down and went to sleep. :D :D :D Finally, I managed to get mum's leg dressed, cleaned it with Sterile water then put loads of cream on and fresh dressing and bandage. Came home eventually, when I left mum was more comfortable :D and Cleo was snug as a bug in a rug. :D PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Here's Cleo for those of you who haven't seen her. Sorry it's a long post, but what a night, now I need a :drinking: :drinking: :drinking: Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 So sorry to hear your mom's ill, Marion! She and Cleo will be in my prayers! Hopefully with your angelic help she will be alright.... You truly are an  and I really mean it! First, you offer to adopt an old lady's Sheltie and bring her mind to rest (not to mention always chatting with her) and then you comfort your mother, and her four legged companion! You are great, you should be proud! :D God Bless you.... Thoughts and Prayers being sent you and your mom's way! (By the way, after stressful nights a :drinking: will always help!) Quote
behle Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Poor Cleo! It's lucky you were there! Watching your Mom suffer has got to be awful. You know how to care for her and I am sure she is very appreciative of your tender care. I think that nurses just get overworked and begin to forget that there is a person who need kindness and consideration inside that body they are trying to fix up! :-? I hope you have a nice drink, put your feet up, and relax. You surely deserve it!  Quote
marion Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, thanks Rowie, you're so sweet. :D :D luckily himself is going working away in London for a few days, :D you never know, I might get a bit of peace :o But then I'll have ALL the dog walking and feeding to do. Mind you, I've got to do some shopping for mum, because although she has several children on her doorstep (I'm in another town) none of them have got her anything in.   Quote

marion Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 Even so Behle, when both legs were bad it took them about ten minutes to do them. They only cleaned the sores. It used to take me nearly one hour, because I cleaned the whole leg and made sure it was thorough. I even had to do them when she was in hopital because the ward she was on wasn't a surgical ward and they didn't have anyone to do them. Can you believe it :o the ward never even had dressings and bandages. :o The healthcare in this country is atrocious, :x :o UNLESS YOU PAY :o And we do really with national insurance contributions. :x In May my sister went the doctor's, she was unable to lie flat and everything was going up and down. She's been off work 2 months now. The doctor sent a letter to the consultant marked URGENT, she got an appointment for 21 July :o The doctor said she couldn't rule out a brain tumour, :o so obviously she was more stressed which made her condition worse. I paid for her to see the consultant privately last week, thankfully he thinks it's her blood pressure out of control. Imagine waiting another 3 weeks thinking you've got a tumour and yet you can't afford to pay. :x It was worth every penny for her peace of mind. :D :D Oh god, I'm ranting again, but the things I've seen would make your hair curl. :x :x Quote
