ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Ok well just like to pick your brains for a mo. There are bumps appearing as I type all over Rio's muzzle and now spreading to the top of his head,he seems fine in himself and I have a friend who's Dalmatian has allergies and it has happened to him before but as far as I know he doesn't have any allergies. Thoughts please ASAP. It's not bothering him in fact he's got fed up of waiting for me and gone up to bed !!! Quote
ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Author Posted July 6, 2003 Where are you when I need you guys   I have to go to bed now it's nearly 2am. I can't believe that when I need advice there is NO-ONE on here  Just my luck :-? Quote
ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Author Posted July 6, 2003 Oh A few people are on now I'll hang on a bit... Quote
Angelboddy Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I am sooooooo sorry that we we're not around. :( How is he doing? Maybe he got bit by some ants or misquitos. Has he been outside before the bumps showed up? I wish I had some advice for you, Hopefully someone else might have some good advice for you. Good luck and let me know how things go. Quote
ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Author Posted July 6, 2003 Hi Angelboddy thanks for your response ! It was horrible last night I waited nearly an hour and no-one answered :( The bumps have pretty much gone this morning but I am still baffled as to what caused them !! He is on Advantix so he shouldn't get bitten by mosquito's because it has a repellent in it :-? The only ants we have here is the regular little black ones and they don't bite do they ? Quote
Sanvean Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I would give the vet's office a call ASAP and see what they think...can't be too careful! Quote
nadooshkinz Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Sanvean's right, the bumps could return at any time! Keep us posted, hope its nothing serious... :) Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I'm sorry no one was here for you! I would suggest calling the vets office ASAP. I know they have gone, but SOMETHING must have caused them and it isn't normal. I'm sure Rio is going to be okay, especially if it doesn't bother him that much.... Good Luck and keep us updated! Quote
ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Author Posted July 6, 2003 Ok well he had another flare up this morning and I have given him some antihistamine and he has been fine since I will ring the vets tomorrow and see what they think, he is insured so I don't have to worry too much about cost. The only thing I can think it could be is dust mites we have had the house upside down the last few days clearing out cupboards etc and a haven't hoovered for 2 days and I usually hoover every day at least once so I'm wondering if it could be that :-? I have a friend who's dog reacts to this. It really is baffling I will keep you posted though  Quote
alicat613 Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Sounds like it could be staph. Can you get a pic? Had a chance to see the vet yet? Quote
ellieangel Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 Ok Well panic over ...I think !!! The antihistamines worked a treat so the vet thinks he could have been bitten or stung aparently the flare ups in this case would coincide with periods of activity and then subside when the dog is relaxed which is exactly what has been happening and would explain why it went down overnight ! I am to keep him on a childs dose of piriton for a few days and then take him off it and see how it goes....phew !!! Thanks for all your advice evryone xxx Quote
Angelboddy Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 I am so happy to hear he is feeling better. :D So do you have any idea to what might have bit or stung him? :( I know when Nostalgia was a little pup, I was giving her a bath outside with some new dog shampoo. Not to long afterwards her whole face swelled up like a balloon. :o You could not see her eyes and she could not breather very well. All she wanted to do was sleep. I was crying and freeking out! I thought it was the shampoo. I called a vet and they told me to just give her some tyanol, and if the swelling does not go down in a couple of hours then to bring her in. Well I gave her some of my Antibiotix, and her whole face was like new again in an hour. I was so afraid to us the soap again, but i had to know if that was, what caused it. And it wasin't. :D So it must have be a ant or some kind of bug that bit her while we were outside. :-? But we have never had that problem after that one time, Thank goodness. :D Quote
ellieangel Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 No I still have no idea what it was that bit/stung him  I will always keep a supply of antihistamines in the house from now on though  Quote
