Deez Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 I just got this on e-mail, and I thought I'd share it to you.. I think Rowie, Nadoosh and most of you might have heard of this... This is how it goes:- An incident worth knowing This incident happened recently in Belgium. We need to be even more careful everywhere. A woman went boating one Sunday, taking with her some cans of coke which she put in the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken into ICU and on Wednesday she died. The autopsy revealed a certain Leptospirose caused by the can of coke from which she had drunk, not using a glass. A test showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis. Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances. It is highly recommended to wash thoroughly the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them as they have been stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned. A study in Spain showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets i.e. full of germs and bacteria. So to wash them with water is advised before putting it to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.... Creeepy... :o Tell all your friends!! Quote
ellieangel Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 There have also been cases of this from bottled beer and alcho-pops from pubs and clubs. They store the drinks in the cellar and that's where it gets contaminated. EW!!! Quote
courtnek Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Actually, to be really safe, you shouldnt drink from the cans at all. Bottled soda is better, since the part you drink from is covered by the bottle cap. It is still best to open the cans and bottles after you have cleaned the tops anyway. Most people are not even aware of this happening, which surprises me.... thanks for the reminder! :D Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 :eek2: :shocked!: :shocked!: IT MAKES YOU THINK Quote

Deez Posted July 5, 2003 Author Posted July 5, 2003 I just wanted you guys to know... Yes I agree.. It's creepy and dangerous for people who don't know about this!! That's why we should inform everyone... Quote
nadooshkinz Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 Oh yes I forgot something there, A lot of my friends tell me they WIPE the cans before drinking from it, but that is not enough! You should Wash them off with water! If you buy coke in those big bunches then wash them all off before putting them in the fridge! Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 I got that in an e-mail, too! :o CREEPY! One of the many reasons I don't like coke, sprite, 7 up, or anything else for that matter! :o Quote
nadooshkinz Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 In the end, your better off drinking a nice glass of OJ! Quote
Deez Posted July 5, 2003 Author Posted July 5, 2003 In the end, your better off drinking a nice glass of OJ!   Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 WHEN I WORKED IN A SUPERMARKET ALL TINS WERE WIPED IF THY NEEDED IT ON THE SHELVES. A customer will not buy a dirty can Quote
Deez Posted July 5, 2003 Author Posted July 5, 2003 Yes but wiping a can isn't good enough.. We need to wash the top of the can! :o Imagine if that happened to you? I would sue the place i bought it from!! Quote
imported_Cassie Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 I have had bad experiences with BEER! I once found a cigarette butt in one bottle I had just opened...no one smokes in my home and it never left my hand...I also heard a story about some one finding a dead mouse in their bottle of beer and another story of some one finding a condom! YUK! :x I only drink beer in a glass now.... Quote
courtnek Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 I also have cracked open eggs with a partially formed chick in it - and a few times you could tell that the egg had been fertilized although no chick had developed. I dont think that can always be helped. Fortunately, no rat stories as of yet....It's just a safe bet to wash everything you eat or drink with hot water beofre eating it. I still wash all my fruits and vegetables from back in the 70's when there was a big scare on about DDT in food.... some habits die hard, and I think that's a good thing. :D Quote

courtnek Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 In the end, your better off drinking a nice glass of OJ! :( some of us cant do that, although I would like to. Being a diabetic means limited anounts of fruit juice and sugars, so diet pop and water is my drink (plus a nice glass of wine now and then). :D Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 WHATEVER YOU DRINK COURTNEK IT IS BETTER IN A NICE GLASS :drink1: Quote
schippsmom Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 :Dog_run: USE A STRAW!! Even pouring from the can/bottle could contaminate the drink! I used to know a couple of guys that worked in a Pepsi warehouse and you would never imagine the things they did to the bottles and cans. I ONLY use a straw. Quote
