Ickle Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Sent from the Internet (Details) KENNEL BLIND Though some folks think I am, I'm not; Though YOU perhaps show signs, But in us it's surely justified: Just LOOK at our dog's lines! They really can't be faulted, Which is more than some can say, And the pups WE'VE bred are perfect, And will beat the lot, someday. You certainly have reason To be SLIGHTLY kennel blind; Your dogs ARE bred from my dogs, And there ARE no faults in mine! But doesn't it just sicken you to hear that Mrs. Bing Has PUPPIES from her ghastly pair Due later in the Spring? You wonder that she had the NERVE To breed from "A" and "B;" He's crippled; and she's cowhocked; And they surely have HD. (You can see it in their movement,' No matter WHAT the vet's say. I wonder why folks waste their time And money on an x-ray?) Remember when her import Beat my dog? Well, I'm no prude, But I hear on good authority The judge that day was stewed! Reminds me of the dog from East That always wins at shows But only under judges That the owner really knows. And how about the dog from West That won the other day?! I hear the owner had THAT judge Around her place to stay! Exhibitors are a jealous lot I'm sure you will agree; They seldom have a good word For the winner...but not me! I never mind when beaten By a better dog than mine; But he's not been born--AND NEVER WILL-- AND I'M NOT KENNEL BLIND!!!!!! Author Unknown Comments please Ickle Quote
courtnek Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 that was disturbing.... A lot of people really feel that way about their dogs winning shows. Which is ok, but you have to accept the fact that you might not win, too... And trying to ruin the reputation of another dog by saying the owner cheated (especially without proof) is just wrong.... I dont know Ickle, it just gives me a bad feeling.... There was alot more being said in that poem then just the words. Quote
Malamum Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 :o Kind of makes me glad I decided not to show Indy. Quote
nadooshkinz Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003  Trying to win by making others look bad is just WRONG! Quote

Ickle Posted July 5, 2003 Author Posted July 5, 2003 It is disturbing But having been around the show scene for some considerable time I can tell you that there is more than a grain of truth to this poem, Just sit around the ring now & again and your eyes will be opened just by listening to the comments (be they nasty or nice) being passed on the dogs or their owners by their fellow exhibitors. This is supposed to be fun and the day it stops being that way for me I will pack it in Ickle Quote
Kiger Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 My real introduction to dog shows was at a very large pre-Westminster warmup show in New Jersey. They were some of the nastiest people I have ever met. I've been to quite a few since then and haven't had that kind of experience again, so yes, it is only some people. Quote
Sanvean Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I went to a dog show once, to help out Macy's breeder. She is a very nice woman, and everyone she introduced me to was very friendly to me, but on the whole I found people very snooty and short. Quote
ellieangel Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Unfortunately there a quite a few of these kinds of people about in every type of show be it breed, obedience or even novelty classes it happens everywhere you just have to let it go over your head and if you feel that uncomfortable use the door !!!! You mustn't let these people upset you they are not REAL dog lovers. Quote
Bensam Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Ickle, I've been involved with the show world for nearly 50 years (ouch, that's a lot of years!) and to me, the saddest thing is to see breeds being ruined by this 'kennel blindness'. Be it dog, horse, chook or whatever showing there will always be those who just cant help being nasty, be it about others animals or exhibitors. Why they cant look beyond their own selfish thoughts and consider the welfare of their particular breed and use someone else's animal to improve their line or buy from a proved line, is beyond me. Two minority breeds I've been closely associated with have suffered the fate of losing their characteristics and lovely temperament through bad breeding by owners who wont go outside their own kennels and have flooded the market with these types. I haven't been in the show ring for about 2 years, have looked around for a pup of either of those breeds and honestly haven't seen one I would take home as a gift let alone pay the prices asked. Kennel blindness and stupidity go together. Quote
Ickle Posted July 7, 2003 Author Posted July 7, 2003 I am in complete agreement with you Bensam. why can people not just enjoy their dogs. Win or lose they are still the same much love family member they took to the show. It not their fault if the judge cannot see whats in front of them good luck to everyone who exhibits their dogs and remember whatever the outcome smile nicely Ickle ps It is not a sin to admire another persons dog.
