Daisysmom Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 When is a good time to introduce raw meat to Jake??? Do you think it is too soon? I cut up a very small amount of chicken neck and mixed it with his puppy food. THink this is okay or too soon, or even should I give one entire meal a day of raw???????? (also posted on HH) Quote
Kiger Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I can't really answer this, but I've seen this question on some of the nutrition forums I read. Here are a couple links for you: http://b-naturals.com/default.php http://www.bowchow.com/ And here's the biggie. You have to join by filling out an e-mail they send, but this is the big group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/K9Nutrition/ Another one that you can just click to join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rawdiet/ Quote
Malamum Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 Hi Daisysmom, I'm definatly no expert and I'm sure there will be others here that will be able to give you good advise but I just wanted say that I know people through a Malamute board who have fed their puppies BARF from day one so I am sure it would be fine for Jake if that's what you plan to feed him. Daisysmom Posted July 1, 2003 Author Posted July 1, 2003 Oh, good! I started giving him a little any way, didn't think it would hurt. Quote
alicat613 Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Here are some links that might help you, both are on barfing pups http://www.ultimateakitas.com/barf.htm http://newcastle.falcin.com/RawPuppyDiet.htm Quote
Daisysmom Posted July 2, 2003 Author Posted July 2, 2003 "Raw beef marrow bones were given every 4-5 days, which gave her a very uneventful teething and helped with what I consider the most uneventful destructive chewing episodes I have ever seen in a pup." Wow, got to get me some of them!! Quote
Aroura Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 The first thing we did when we got Belladonna was go straight to the shops and buy her some chicken carcass'!!! She gets so excited at meal times and sits there and chews, and chews... and chews.... Its great for their teeth, especially as when they are teething most so called "chew toys" don't give their gums the excercise they need, rmb's do. She also gets some of the fatty bits from the other dogs lamb off cuts to help with her coat. At the moment she is getting two kibble meals a day, seeing as its really inconvenient to defrost bones for three meals a day, but when she's bigger she'll be getting all raw too :D Oh, by the way, I'm in the yahoo raw feeding group. I just posted about feeding puppys - they are pretty good though will tare you down about feeding veggies, which I disagree with because I do beleive that veggies have their place in a dogs diet. Its worth a look though! Quote

Aroura Posted July 2, 2003 Posted July 2, 2003 Oh I just realised, Kiger posted a link to a "rawdiet" list, I got muddled up and was thinking about the "rawfeeding" list I'm in... just joined the raw diet list!!! I'm sure it is much better than the raw feeding list, they are very biased there and make you feel very uncomfortable if you don't agree 100% with everything you say. All you have to do is get a yahoo email account, go to "groups" and search for "rawdiet"... or you could just click on kigers link  Quote
