Luka-pop Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 How do you keep your dogs cool in the summer? We don't use air conditioning unless it becomes unbearable because it's upposed to be bad for your health. It screws up the body's natural cooling mechanism, or something like that. But Luka's panting and drooling. I know it's normal and not dangerous, but still, it's hot. Thank dog we have a furnished and cool basement, but it's so boring down here. And, Luka hates the water, so it's not like he'll go out and jump in a doggie pool or chase the sprinkler. He dosn't eat ice cubes cuz he gets bored of them. :-? Quote
courtnek Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 if the basement is cool, he'll be ok. A lawn sprinkler sometimes works for a dog that wont lay in a pool....it wont hurt him to be hot....they will pant it out and be ok as soon as it cools off, if they are quiet... my lab will lay in a kids swimming pool all day if I let her, but some dogs just dont like them. marion Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 We don't have that problem too often over here. :( When we do I normally put the fan on or they lie between the open doors and catch the breeze. Rosie lies on the laminate flooring instead of the carpet and both of them dip there muzzles in the big bucket we have under the outside tap. Ruby will lie in the childrens pool (dog pool really, no children) but not Rosie. Quote
bk_blue Posted June 27, 2003 Posted June 27, 2003 I would love to get a kiddie pool for BK but I don't think he'd use it. He's very precious about temperature. He has a comfort zone between 18C-22C and if it it colder or hotter than that he curls up in bed and ignores everyone, or flops on the slate paving against the house dramatically. He does like the hose though, we trickle a little water on his back and while he's not too happy when it's being done afterwards he gets so hyperactive.
