Hello All, Need help I have a mixed breed-----Pit Bull & Lab.
He is always eating grass.
Will he get sick, or is it o.k.??????????

Every morning when I let the dogs in the yard they immediately go to find the long grass to graze on. its like letting the horses out each morning.

To answer you question, just like Sanvean i'm sure she's fine, just don't let her eat any grass that might have pestisides on it.

My two eat grass all the time and it doesn't seem to do them any harm. They also love wood, which I do discourage.

Rocket thinks wood is a bone. The main reason I discourage wood is to keep him from wanting some when he's alone inside, ie my coffee table. The second reason is that it can be just as dangerous as bone splinters.

Grass isn't going to hurt a dog unless it has harmful pesticides on it.

Ha Ha, Rosebud, Rosie ate most of the wood in our house for the first three years, she still occasionally chews on her basket (repaired again). :o

I bought a new dining room suite at christmas, leather and solid wood, I prayed that she wouldn't take a fancy to it. I'd had my old one for 16 years and the legs of the chairs were practically gone and the table wasn't far off. She's chewed skirting boards, spindles on my staircase and anything else wooden she could get her teeth in to.

Thankfully, she's left the new one alone.

Grass is actually very good for your dog, it has alot of essential fatty acids in it...my dogs come spring go out "grazing" in the winter time I grow grass for them inside the house (wheat grass, no illegal stuff! )
As metioned by every one else, the only thing to be concerned about would be pesticides.

I hope you don't mean the illegal grass Ellie.

Never thought of that, I'll have to watch my two when I take them my friends, :o you never know.

I buy special grass from the nearby farmers market. It's for cats but Elle likes to share it with our cat Shadow. It's supposed to help with their digestion. (That's what I've heard) :drinking:

Debbie, I have seen our dogs and "our" cats eat grass and then throw it up. Like Rowie said sometimes they eat it if they are feeling sick... maybe it is the animal equivalent of sticking your finger down your throat (ie. you know you have to vomit, so you may as well hurry it up instead of feeling like you want to die for the next hour). Ahhh here we go (I found a link for you): http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/home/pets/5318589.htm

I hope that helps, if you need more infor do what I did and type "dogs eating grass sick" into Google. :)
