Guest Anonymous Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Hello, I own Sloughi dogs. Some of you probably know what it is, but if not, you should really read up on this interesting breed. They are one of the skinniest breeds, so if you see one, no need to report animal neglect. Skinny is how they are supposed to look! Pronunciation is "Slew Gee" The G is hard, like in the word GOOD. Sloughis are like a good beverage, they make you feel good, but sometimes they can give you a headache :drinking:  Quote
abker17 Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Welcome!!! :D I've just recently heard of the breed, and done some research on them, they are quite beautiful! :D Sloughis are like a good beverage, they make you feel good, but sometimes they can give you a headache What a great description! Oh, yes and we love to see pics!!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Here they are. They have been used on a few sites for modeling the breed. Quote
spiritsmom Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 I've seen one, a friend of the family bought a show quality female last year that she hopes to show and breed one day. She was a beauty and I saw her when she was about 4-5 months old. Lots of people thought she was a saluki, but nope. Quote
abker17 Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Are those yours? They are beautiful! :D And it still says that u are a guest, so make sure to register with us! :D :D :D :D :D Quote
courtnek Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 are they related to the Whippet in some way? God, they ARE thin.... and you're right - some people might consider that thinness abuse... welcome aboard!! Quote
Sanvean Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Hola! I've seen sloughis in some mags before and thought they were GORGEOUS! More pics, please! :) Quote
StarFox Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 WELCOME!!! :D Wow..thoes are beautiful dogs! Yes more pics please! :P Quote
IYPChrissie Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 I am not familiar with the breed, but the pics sure are pretty! I love their face, but yes on the skinny side  Quote
Malamum Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 I was totally unfamiliar with this breed and if you hadn't mentioned it I would have been worried about how thin they were. That's what I love about this board - always learning new bits and pieces about different breeds. Quote
LisaLQ Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Beautiful dogs, I think they're gorgeous! Being owned by two lanky dogs myself (lurchers) and a previous mum to a wonderful greyhound (sadly passed in 2000) I would just like to say a big hello from sunny (ha ha not!) England! Can I sneak in a little promotion for my greyhound and lurcher group while I'm on? :evilgrinblack:  *runs and hides* Quote
Daisysmom Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Welcome!! I have never heard nor seen the breed before. Where do they originate? Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Welcome!! :D I LOVE Sloughis! They're in my dog book, and I've researched on them before, too. I think (If I can remember) they originated in Africa, and where used to guard the villages. I agree, they are a little on the thin side, but they are BEAUTIFUL! :D Living in an arabic country (Bahrain) we do have alot of thin dogs, as most are Saluki mixes. My beloved passed away four legged friend was a Saluki mix. I've never seen a Sloughi before, but I do know that some arabs here use them for hunting, truly an amazing breed.... :) Hope to learn more about you, and your doggies! :D Rowie  Quote
Sanvean Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Hey, Rowie, are you Arabic by descent, or do you guys live in Bahrain for some other reason? My grandfather was Palestinian...I've always wanted to go to the Middle East. (If I do, I'll bring you some dog food 8) ) Quote
