Kiger Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I've had the same problem with Kato since he was a puppy. He has normal poops in the morning, and mushy little cowpies in the evening. I've tried Canidae (he ate it again when it came out the other end, but otherwise he was fine on it), Wellness, and right now he's on the Chicken Soup dog food. He gets a couple spoonfuls of Wellness canned in the morning, mixed with Supermix-5 supplement, but he gets dry the rest of the time. He's been wormed. I've thought about trying raw, but he won't chew on bones. I did try Wysong Archtype (the freezedried raw food) for awhile, but it's too expensive and doesn't last long - plus, same problem. Pumpkin clears it up, but I don't want to have to feed pumpkin all the time. Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas? He looks great, but this can't be good for him. Quote
Kiger Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 Possibly, but I really hate having to pickup pancakes. I've never had a dog that did this, so if it's normal I'd like to know. Here's the 3 foods. The only thing that jumps out is apple (Canidae didn't produce pancakes): Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul-Adult Formula Protein: 24.00 % Fat: 14.00 % -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chicken turkey chicken meal turkey meal whole grain brown rice whole grain white rice oatmeal potatoes cracked pearled barley millet chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols) duck salmon egg product flaxseed natural chicken flavor kelp potassium chloride salt choline chloride chicory root extract carrots peas apples dried skim milk cranberry powder rosemary extract parsley flake. Vitamins and minerals. Mary's Mama Posted June 17, 2003 Posted June 17, 2003 I have the same exact issue. I have found that if I dont add anything to her food it helps. I usually give a little canned food or organic baby food with the night time meal. I went through a little period of her being picky and decided no more of that, she got nothing but dry food and her stools cleared up alot. So I dont add much if anything to her food any more. Also I started using Solid Gold and it is WONDERFUL!! She is a fussy eater but she loves this stuff. I have noticed more definition in her muscle tone and a healthier coat since she has been on it (she ate Wellness before, very good food too). The only other thing I can think of is water. Sounds strange but I also changed their water. Used to just use water straight out of the faucet. We have great water but I just thought I'd see what happened. I filter it through a brita pitcher now and it seems to be making a big difference too. She is actually having pretty firm stools now, almost too firm. Hey if its not one thing it is another  Quote
Kiger Posted June 17, 2003 Author Posted June 17, 2003 I'm going to try that. Too bad I just bought a whole bunch of cans. I did end up buying a new bag of Canidae last night so I'll see what happens with that. Since he won't poop in the backyard - or anywhere he plays - anymore, I guess I don't have to worry about him eating it. He likes it as much as the Chicken Soup stuff, and I think it is the better food anyway. Quote
