Most people aren't allergic to the fur or hair, they're allergic to the dander, which ALL dogs have.
The only thing I could advise would be Petalclense (sp?) which is something you put on the dog (dont know if it's a shampoo or a lotion).
No such thing as a hypoallergenic dog I'm afraid, just ones that wont cause as much problems as another breed, if you get me.
Best of luck,
Lisa

I have a Wheaten Terrier. I am terribly allergic to some dogs, but my wheatie doesnt bother me. The pollution here in AZ is worse than anything else!

There are two sides to this coin - allergies are your bodies way of defending you against perceived "attackers" (germs, bacteria, etc). I have had them my whole life. I was determined to be allergic to dogs when I was young, but wanted one so badly my parents eventually allowed it, with the use of allergic shots to block the histamines from affecting me.

What ends up happening with the shot therapy is that your body becomes accustomed to the allergin, because they inject you with it in small quantities, and no longer feel it's a threat. I am no longer allergic to dogs,
and have owned several of all breeds. After time, with medicine, you can train your body to not be allergic. And it's not fur, it's dander. There are very few people actually allergic to "hair" (the non-allergen dogs have hair, not fur) and the fur dogs have dander....exposure will cause a little bit of allergy reactions, but that can be handled and eventually the body gets used to the allergen and no longet tries to fight it. Hope that helps.

You guys forgot a couple of main types. Bichon Frise - I know someone who is highly allergic and that is the only kind that works for him.
How about Schnauzers? They are teriffic pets, have hair, don't shed, and my former roomate had no allergy problems with my Alphie (years and years ago, I still miss him!). Also, they come in 3 sizes, so you have more of a choice.
The "doodle" mixes you listed are not really shed-free; the poodle part is shed-free, but not the part that is mixed. You 'd be better off with a plain poodle than one of those mixes.
I believe lhasa apso and shi tzu's are also shed-free, but I knew a lhasa mix that shed really bad!
Hope this helps

My sisters dog is three quarters poodle and she still sheds.
Lily on the other hand hardly sheds at all. I'm a very strong beleiver that a good diet is one of the best ways to make a pet less allergenic. Our cats used to be fed cheap food, they'd always make everyone sneaze and stuff. As soon as I switched them to a better diet people stoped sneazing around them. Also, Tessa used to moult like crazy all the time and smell doggie - I switched her to BARF and now she hardly sheds and barely smells.
All I'm saying is that, whatever breed she gets, feed it a good diet and it will be even less allergenic.
