Rosebud Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 :D I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about Starfox and Zebra. I was wondering if everything was working out and if their trainer was having any success. Quote
StarFox Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Oh thank you for asking Rosebud!! :D Well Currently we are having private sessions with a trainer. Zebra seems to be picking up comands very fast...except for one. The ONLY comand he is having trouble on is "give"...the one comand that we realy need him to learn! I'm sure the little bugger knows that we need he to know that command and is being difficult on purpose. But Zebra is doing well. But the major problem is actually my dad. *sigh* he now thinks that he is Alpha and everytime Zebra does something wrong my dad gets that damn stick out and hits it on the floor! :x My dad needs more training than Zebra! So as of right now I'm not very happy with my dad..at all! And trust me I try to make him come with us to training class and he refuses. I'm starting to think that allot of Zebra's behavor problems come from the fact that I have a very unstable family life and there is allot of turmoil from my mom and dad. But thankfully I'm going to be moving out in 2 or 3 months with my freind and I'm taking Zebra with me. :P But all in all things seem to be going well right now. But I should be careful with what I say because I tend to jinx myself! Quote
Rosebud Posted June 6, 2003 Author Posted June 6, 2003 :D Would you be able to get your dad to read a book. I've been reading a really good book, it's titled "So your dog's not Lassie" The book is about strong-willed hard headed four-legged people and how to train them. Keep working with Zebra and Good luck. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 THAT IS GOOD :) IT'S ONLY BEEN A COUPLE WEEKS. WELL DONE ZEBRA Quote

I have read that book several times and it is wonderful! The authors add little bits of humor and it makes for a great read! :D :D Quote
courtnek Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Starfox, you may have hit on the problem, square on the head. Dogs pick up on all the tension in the household, and they do react to it. He may be stealing things for security, because he can feel how tense everyone around him is. Even you, if your home is unstable. Freebee was very tense when my x- husband lived here, and we would fight. She would go hide. When my son and I argue, she tries to get in between and break up the "fight"...but she was afraid of my X, and wouldnt intervene. Getting him out of there may be the best thing for both of you. Good luck :D Quote
StarFox Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Having my dad read a book is a great idea. Except I know he won't because if I even suggest anything that has to do with dogs he thinks he is the expert. :x Not to mention the fact that he realy dosn't like me very much and won't listen to a word I say. Courtnek- I agree with you...I think the stress level in this household is too much for poor Zebra. Heck it's too much for me! Zebra gets very upset everytime we have an argument and is VERY afraid of my dad when he yells. My dad and I umm...well to be honest we hate eachother and we nearly get into knock down drag out fights sometimes. And everytime we fight zebra gets scared and runs and hides. It's soo awful and I feel like the worst owner ever to have Zebra suffer threw this. I've wondered so many times if it would be better if I gave him away. But I couldn't. That's why I'm "getting rid of" my parents by moving. Grr! I just wish houseing was cheaper around here...I have to have a roommate and the rent on the appartment will be at least 500 dollars....or about 750 pounds! :o ....Oh gosh now I'm just babbling on and on. Sorry. Quote
