Angelboddy Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 I go to a group meeting every sunday night. And we are aloud to bring our dog with. Me and a fellow brings his dog. Well he has a pit bull and a lot of peolpe there starting to get all mad and judgmental about his dog. His dog is a sweet heart and has not done anything to make people scared. They never complained about my dog, just his. So now our dogs are not aloud to go to the meetings with us. This makes me soooo mad  My dog and his are great group therapy dogs. They greet everyone that comes in with a wagging tail. It's just those few that see a pit bull and does not give them a chance. Now my dog and his suffers and has to stay home. I feel that my dog feels she has done something wrong to not be able to go with. Every sunday evening she sits by the door waiting to go with me. I wish she could understand. It just breaks my heart every time i have to leave her here. Quote
courtnek Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 maybe you and the other guy should make a point of bringing up the issue at the meetings, and try to make these people understand the misjudgement of Pitts and Staffs and GSD's and Rotties...Give them the breed specifics on the dogs, and show them that all the Pit's they see on animal planet are not normal household pets. You will have to divulge the fact that Pit's are animal aggressive, but point out that that is a breed specific and that they are very very good with people. Tell them the truth. maybe it will help? hope so Quote
Angelboddy Posted June 6, 2003 Author Posted June 6, 2003 We do have a board meeting on june friday the 13th. Not a very good day to hold one, on account of friday 13th. I will not be able to attend, but i'm hoping a good amount of peolpe that show up are fighting for the dogs to come back, and give good word about pit's. Just wish us luck, and thank! Quote
Barbiro Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Pits look intimidating and that scares a lot of persons who don't take the time to really get to know the dog. It's a shame that backyard breeders and puppy bills (and the media) have given this breed such a bad rap. Quote
courtnek Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 I disagree Barbiro - from my viewpoint, Rotties and Dobies and GSD's look more intimidating, because of size. Pit's are cute, I think. With those wide faces and square heads, they look like little weight lifters!! LOL I think that the public view of them is "inherited" from bad press. Pit's are not that large, and most people dont realize how strong they are, compared to the size of a Rottie or a Dobe.... But because of what the stupid ignorant macho "gotta have a tough dog" people have caused, they are seen constantly on the press as evil and dangerous.... back in my youth it was the GSD's and Dobe's that got all the bad press, then later on the Rotties..... I hope you can get this worked out Angel.... I hope you can get this worked out so you can bring your dog back.... Quote
courtnek Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 and you know what's REALLY annoying? My dog is a lab mix and everyone assumes she is people friendly and they can let their kids run up and wrap their arms around her.....NOT!!! she doesnt like strangers....and she's not crazy about small children either....but once again, it's the whole media "labs are wonderful family dogs and good with children..." crap.....their kids might actually be safer hugging a Pit - although there are others here who know more about that then I do. Boxer use to get some what of a bad press to, at least where i use to live in arizona it did. I remember it quit clearly, because we owned a pit bull/boxer mix. she looked more like a boxer. Quote
courtnek Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Angel, if you want to print/quote anything I say, feel free. It might help your case some to let them know that the lab mix they think is so friendly is NOT- all dogs, like people, are individuals.... change the mindset a little..... good luck!! :D Quote

I feel the same way as you do. All dogs come in different packages. And every dog has their own personality, no matter what the breed. I appreciate all your help to. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 I agree with Barbio. People say that they know alot of pits. I they have, then why are they so afraid of them? Makes me angry. BUT, I think because of how pitbulls fight, and occasionally injure someone because of that persons stupidity, people think of them as ugly, hateful monsters. I love pitbulls! They are very sweet. It's the owner who needs a woopin. Quote
Malamum Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Goodluck Angelboddy, I hope things work out for you. It's a shame that so many people are so narrow minded... and not just a about dogs, it seems to be about everything these days :( Quote

Pit's are not that large, and most people dont realize how strong they are, compared to the size of a Rottie or a Dobe.... The image of the Pit has been in ingrained into the minds of the general public and of course since it's always bad publicity they associate this look with mean. Off subject - Court who would get along great with my breeder, she has the same opinion about ignorant, arrogant people who want big bad a** dogs and don't have a clue of how to raise them to be respectable members of society. back in my youth it was the GSD's and Dobe's that got all the bad press, then later on the Rotties..... I hope you can get this worked out Angel.... I hope you can get this worked out so you can bring your dog back.... Angel - You should also point out that they should not judge you, your friend and your dogs unless the dog gives them reason to. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 Good luck. Hope they give you both another chance. Both of you deserve it Quote
primabella Posted June 6, 2003 Posted June 6, 2003 That is so stupid! :madgo: Pits are as sweet a dog as any other. Who says that each Pit is mean but each Chihuahua is a sweetie? It's so dumb. I hope you can bring up some of the points mentionned here to clear up these stereotypes. Good luck  Quote
Angelboddy Posted June 6, 2003 Author Posted June 6, 2003 Thank you guys! All of your support really helps. I am just so upset about this whole thing  The night they told me that the dogs could not be there and i had to bring my dog home, i was just so upset and mad. peolpe knew what the matter was but they just keeped on asking me "what's wrong" "WHAT'S WRONG!!!" tHIS MADE ME SO MAD  "Don't even let me start" I told them. But I will bring up some of the suggestions you guys gave me. And thanks again. Quote
