Lucky Chaos Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 I got home from school this afternoon and saw a bag of dog food ripped into tiny little pieces. Chaos had somehow taken the bag from on top of the cupboard and she and Lucky ate every last kibble. Both of them are so bloated. But I think Chaos got most of it. She looks like she's expecting puppies any day now :o . Of course i didn't feed them dinner tonight, but Should I feed breakfast tomorrow? The bag was about 10 pounds. They both also have diarriah because they haven't eaten kibble in a long time. Should i give them rice or something else to clear it up? i ahve to admit it was kinda funny cause Chaos keeps waddling around, But i took her for a REALLY good run tonight so she looks a little better. Kiger Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Canned pumpkin - pure, not the pie mix - clears up loose stools. I learned this trick after Kato would come back from dogs shows with the poops. Quote
Malamum Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Lucky Chaos, Not trying to criticise but I'm not sure that a run is the best thing. Heavy exercise straight after eating can cause bloat, which can be deadly. A good link on it is http://www.canismajor.com/dog/bloat.html I know large dogs are more susceptible but I would rather be safe than sorry. The rule I go by is no exercise for 3 hours after eating and no feeding for an hour after exercise. With them bingeing like that I would probably wait a fair bit longer. Kiger, does fresh pumpkin work just as well? I have never seen canned pumpkin so was going to buy some fresh pumpkin steam it then mash it. Quote
Sanvean Posted May 31, 2003 Posted May 31, 2003 Yes, please keep an eye out for ANY signs of bloat! One of my fellow rescue-group volunteers, who is a VERY experienced dog owner, lost one of her dogs to this recently, and she was broken-hearted. Quote
Lucky Chaos Posted May 31, 2003 Author Posted May 31, 2003 Canned pumpkin? never heard of that but I'll try it ! Malamum, they ate the food anywhere from 12-2 pm and I didn't take them for a walk until 8, which is the normal time we take them out, so I hope it should be okay. I still have NO CLUE how Chaos got the food which was up high beacsue we don't feed kibble anymore. I know it wasn't Lucky because he's never done that even when his food bag was on the floor all day. Quote
