Has anyone seen the above? I haven't been able to check the forum for a while due to having visitors (non-doggy) so apologize if this is a repeat.

What is going on? Are they trying to make to so hard to own a pet that soon no-one will be able to keep up with all the rules? How can uninformed bodies push all these things through? There's a car sticker here in Aussie that says "I own a dog and I vote" perhaps we should send this message to all the pollies!

"The Bulldog has in its opinion markedly folded skin, too short a skull and abnormally positioned teeth. The heads should be completely redesigned or the breed banned.

The Cocker Spaniel is considered by the Convention to have ears which are too long. They should be bred for shorter ears or banned.

The Basset Hound it alleges has legs which are abnormally positioned. They should be repositioned Euro-style and be made longer or the breed banned.

Docking and removal of dew claws from gundogs, terriers and other working breeds and show dogs would also be outlawed by this Convention"

JC!!! did anyone read the list of dogs that they have issues with? About the only ones NOT on it are Goldens and Labs!!!!!

They even foudn fault with the Papillion, which is about as sweet and gentle as they come!!

I reallt hope the AKC and the BKC (sorry, dont know the official name in Britain) throw their top guns at this. That's ridiculous - what do they care what the animal looks like??? If people like wrinkly faced dogs, and dogs with docked tails (there is a purpose for that) and dogs without dew claws (they dont need dew claws anymore, they dont have to run at top speed to catch prey and dig into the ground for traction) SO WHAT?????

God, these people are nuts....do they even understand why these breeding characteristics were done in the first place?

Well, I do have to agree that some breeds have been bred to extremes. Bulldogs in particular -- they can hardly be born the normal way any more (most require C-sections) because of the size of their heads. That's disturbing. I wouldn't go so far as saying that the breed out to be banned, but it would be nice if the standard were rewritten in favor of a less exaggerated look.

Thats ridiculous!!!! What are some people thinking? Ban cockers because their ears are too long!!! :o
Oh, and the most stupid part, banning dew claw removal... what the? Don't they realise that dew claws cause more harm than good? All of our dogs are dew claw-less and proud of it! I realised the extent of how unneccissary they were at training when one dog had to undergo major surgury because their dew claw had been ripped and become infected. Then there's all those dogs with over grown dew claws, which curl around and regrow into the dogs leg, causing major pain and infection.
Stupid laws, sometimes I think they make these laws just to make it look to the general public that they are doing something other than sitting on their arse all day, and they expect us to beleive that??? :agrue:

Thanks, Mouse and Rowie, I've been trying to keep up with here, but seem to have a never ending stream of visitors staying, more next week then again the following week. How can I keep up with the important stuff (Dogo) when I have all these interruptions?
Makes you wonder if there's a hidden agenda - there are so many other issues in the world today, why, suddenly it seems, is the emotional pet thing being pushed, not even the really important issues like cruelty, puppy mills, etc. just stupid things like breed specific legislation and now this. Who pays these people? Where do they get these ideas? What is going on?
