Guest Anonymous Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 We have a new addition, a 5 month old dashaund puppy, in addition to 3 cats. "Penny" has discovered the cat litter box and loves to "eat" the droppings. Any suggestions on how to keep her out of it? Is there something I can put in the litter? Please help!! Quote
imported_Debbie Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 We have 3 dogs and 1 cat, and believe me they'd love to raid the litter box !! When Kato was a kitten we had to have the box in the bathroom, but as soon as he was big enough to go down the basement stairs, that's where the box went !! For some reason the dogs will not go down the basement stairs !! Hooray !! So my problem was solved !! :D I don't think you should put anything in it , it may make your puppy sick. :( Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 We have a spare room that's designated as the "cat room." The litter box is in there and we have a child safety gate across the door. The cats can jump the gate, but for the dogs, it's a big ACCESS DENIED. There's nothing they'd love better than to go surfing for cat turds. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 I just had to teach my dogs that they couldn't go into the "kitties" bathroom! Everytime they tried it we would say NO and they would turn away from it. Now they don't try very often at all. Quote

My gate is screwed into the inside door frame on one side so it can swing open like a door, I also have it elevated just enough that the dogs can't get in but the cats can. However the litter-box is across the hall in the laundry room. I have one of those electric litter boxes and the crunchies are swept into a holding tray with a lid. The babies don't bother it. But it may be because the very first time they did get into it they had to wear a muzzle all day, it worked they have never touched the litter since. Quote
courtnek Posted May 24, 2003 Posted May 24, 2003 My cat box is in the basement, with a baby gate over the doorway - It's up high enough for the cat to get under, but the dog cant. And it has a latch so I can open it when I need to go do the laundry or whatever. Quote
