pei obssessed Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Well, we'll have to go see my sister-in-law and her kids (age 2 and 4), and I was wondering what I should do with Hippo... Problem is that, although she's been very well socialized (brought to the town, and stores and park every day of her life), we didn't have any friends or relatives with kids, so she never saw any small kids for a longer time. She's met plenty in the street, but she still gets very excited when she sees them (not to mention hear them screeching), and wants to jump on them to lick their faces  Now the problem is that we'll be seeing my nephews only for a day--so is there any point in me trying to train Hippo while we're there, or she won't learn anything and I'll just be asking too much of her? She learned her commmands really fast, but she's very puppish and hyper, and I don't know if I'd ever be able to control that... If you think that it's worth a try, and that we should bring her over for the day (I could leave her with a friend if not), what are the things I should be doing to train her out of her jumping-licking face? I know not to leave her alone with the kids, and I'm also thinking of keeping her on a leash at all times (to avoid kid taking off screaming, and her running after him and knockig him over)... Anything else you can think of? Quote
Rosebud Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 :-? Well it is always good to reinforce her training around actual children, however with her still being a pup that's pretty much all you will really be doing. It might be a good idea to see if your sister-in-law will bring the kids to your home for a socialization/manners sessions. Quote

Impossible :-? She lives in Germany, and is only visiting now for a few weeks (staying at her parents, 3 hours away from us)... Quote
Rosebud Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 :-? Well that's a predicament, if you are only going to see her occasionally then I wouldn't bother with a impromtu course on manners around children, unless she insists on seeing Hippo. Quote
