Guest Anonymous Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Took the new puppy to the vet today. It's official that he has kennel cough. He's been put on an antibiotic and cough medicine. His cough has already improved over the last few days and the vet said that was a good sign. He's already exposed the other dogs to it so she said to just keep an eye out. Still haven't found a name for the little guy. Any suggestions? :D Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Did i miss the pictures somewhere?? So glad the cough is getting better. It is more annoying than anything really, kinda like a cold. My sheltie had it a few months ago, but all is well now. I'm sure he'll be ship shape in no time. :D I would love to help you with names but I need to know more about him!! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Nope, you didn't miss the pictures. I haven't been able to post them yet. Need hubby's help. He's much more computer knowledgeable (sp?) than I am! Quote
imported_Cassie Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 I'd have to see a picture before giving advise on a name :) If you look on the index on this site there is a place you can view names for your new pup. A little advice, be sure to finish the anitbiotics your vet has given you exactly as prescribed and give them till they are finished (as on the label on your script...for example administer 3 pills daily with meals for 5 days give for the 5 days even if your pup looks better) and I would supplement the pups diet with yoghurt after the antibiotics are finished to replace the good bacteria.... Overuse of antibiotics should always be avoided. More bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics; in fact, there are some bacteria which are virtually resistant to almost every antibiotic available. As a result, stronger and stronger drugs need to be developed, and there is always the possibility the bacteria will become resistant to these as well. If antibiotics are prescribed, be sure to give the entire prescription, even if the pet appears to have recovered. Not doing so may contribute to the development of resistant bacteria. This is bad news for both you and your pet. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 19, 2003 Posted May 19, 2003 Guess anitbiotics for animals are the same as for humans. Us humans always have to finish the prescription even when we feel better also! It's amazing I can never remember to take my own meds but I never forget one of my animals!! Quote
Mama A.J. Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Well, it is always a relief to know exactly what is wrong, and to know that it can be cured!!! :D Hope he gets feeling better soon, poor thing. Kennel cough is no fun, I am sure. Anyways- names I like are Diesel, Jarrett, Kodiak, Max, Tucker, Dante, Landon, Gibson, Buddy, Shadow, Scooter, Marley, Tyson... can't think anymore. Maybe when I see a pic I will be able to find a better one that will fit the pup...can't wait to see what he looks like!!! :D Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 His cough is still getting better. But he's still kind of sluggish. Not sure if it's the kennel cough or just all the excitement of being in a new place! Quote
