My Hippo (almost 8 mo now) is acting weird, I think... We went to the petshop this afternoon and got an ear cleaning solution (imRex), which I put in her ears afterwards--I've cleaned her ears before, but only with cotton balls... Well, she shook her head quite a few times, came to the kitchen to get her biscuit afterward, but she's still acting as if she's afraid of me (5 hours after it happened): she won't sleep close to me, she went to the other room to sleep (which she almost never does), and she looks scared when I touch her. A few times she even crouched in corners looking scared. She doesn't seem to be afraid of my husband... Do you think it's just the ear cleaning, or anything more serious to worry about? I can't think of anything unusal happenning to her today... And I have touched her all over--nothing seems to hurt her (no whinning). Maybe i put too much cleaning stuff and it hurt her???? Or what else?

the ear cleaning may have caused a bubbling, popping effect, which she could hear. it didnt hurt her, but she may be afraid of it now.

offer her a treat, clean her ears and then give it to her. she will eventually learn that the popping sounds end up being a good thing.

Rosie always just lies there while I clean her ears but Ruby does a runner and hides as soon as she sees the ear cleaner come out.

I've now got some powder from the vets, which seems to go down better with them. English Setters are renowned for ear infections so I have to be very diligent in that department. :D

Actually ellieangel, it was from the groomers who are situated in the vets practice. It's called Thornit, it's only a tiny bottle and it's quite expensive but you only need a small amount so it lasts quite a while. :D

my puppy absolutely HATES having her ears cleaned. so much so that, when i bring out the little blue bottle of solution, she runs to her crate! after i do it, she runs around endlessly shaking her head and looking at me like "how could you do this to me!?" she gets over it though. your dog will get used to it.

Thanks, everybody. Courtnek, I think you're right: it must have been the ear popping that scared her, and made her cower in the corners all of a sudden. She seems to be doing ok now. She even got back at me today: she found a huge dead carp left by some stupid fishermen (I think) and she rolled in it. I almost had a nervous break down when I saw what she was rolling in--I don't eat any fish  , and I find it disgusting to look at even when it's not half decomposing  I brought the devil home and shampooed her really well, but now I still can't stand looking at her. I know it's just her damn instinct, but it grosses me out!
