marion Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Does anyone else sing to their dogs  As I'm going round doing my housework I always sing to the dogs. Not proper songs, I make things up as I go along such as "Rosie is my darling, my baby etc, etc to both of them. They look at me like I've lost the plot  :help1:  Mind you with the tunes I make up and my singing I'm not surprised they hide behind the couch :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: :Help_2: Quote
pei obssessed Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 YES!!! I have all these 'proper' songs that I've changed the words to (and kept the tune)--like "Puff the magic dragon" became "Popo (another name for Hipo) the magic dragon,/ lived by the sea," or "Little angel" became "Little Popo, tiny Popo, go to sleep." My husband can even play on the guitar the dragon one  And she sits and listens to us. What a bunch of lunatics we are :cunao: Also, there's an Elvis song: "You walk like an angel/You talk like an angel/ But I got wise:/ You're the devil in desguise." Well, this is HER song :Dog_run: Quote
marion Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 Thank GOD I'm not the only lunatic :ylsuper: :ylsuper: Quote
pei obssessed Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003  (I love these little emotioncons) Quote

behle Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Don't tell anyone, but I enjoy singing "You Are My Sunshine" to my Max-i-well. 'Cause he is a ray of sunshine and a joy to be around. But mostly because he listens to me, tilting his head this way, then that way. Ben just seems to roll his eyes and go back to sleep. Sometimes when the mood strikes, my husband will get out his flute, play a tune for the boys and then Ben will sing, and yodel, and howl, and grunt. When he begins to howl Max will join in, and sometime we all wind up howling too! It's wierd, but fun. I love it when dogs throw back their head and howl to the ceiling or sky! What an awesome sound! :grins: Quote
marion Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 My Rosie always howls when Coronation Street comes on the tv, she's got a thing about that tune. :o Quote
behle Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Doesn't it make you want to "get inside her head" to figure out just what triggers that response? It's curious... Ben will not sing for any of my husband's instruments but the flute. But my sister (this is years ago, mind you) used to practice her clarinet in our backyard and our dog Skipper would just sing and sing along. Without fail! Quote
courtnek Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 I sing to mine - Freebee responds by howling, Alex never cared, just perked his ears... Quote
marion Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 I bet Alex ran for the ear plugs        Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 NO I DON'T SING- :Dog_run: - I ONLY TALK TO THEM. I AM SURE THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING :D Quote
ellieangel Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Yes I have to confess we do it too !!! They look at us in disgust sometimes !! :o The best one is when they're on the sofa and you crawl towards them and rio's huge tail starts thud..thud..thud.. :sweetCyberM: Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003  I do too! Rowie loves it 'specially when i'm strocking her/grooming her and singing a really slow soft tune to her.. :D You know, it's as relaxing for them as it is to us! :) Sometimes she goes to sleep as i'm singing for her! Quote
bk_blue Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003 Hee hee, dogs are funny creatures. If we howl to Tomson he will start howling, it's very amusing! BK just looks at us as if we are mad, and will go back to sleep. I think he is used to the various musical instruments and band practices we have had. Quote
StarFox Posted April 28, 2003 Posted April 28, 2003  I sing to zebra sometimes. I make up silly little songs about him. I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy but he listens to me most of the time. But sometimes he looks at me and just walks away...not that I blaim him for walking away because my singing...well has much t be desired. Quote
snowpaws Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 He likes singing to me...especially on the bus  The way to freak Kodi out is when there is a song on, and you mouth the words at him. He tilts his head from one side to the other, until he cant bear it anymore, and leaps on you.. I love it when dogs tilt their heads, its soo cute! I always talk to him aswell, in that stupid baby voice  Hehe ahh, Rio and his thudding tail! I LOVE it when he does that! Ahhh, we are all insane, but never mind!!!! Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 2, 2003 Posted May 2, 2003 I'm a karaoke fanatic, so I'm always singing. My dogs are used to hearing me sing. In fact, one of my friends came over last weekend, and we spend about 4 hours singing to our karaoke disks, and both of my dogs fell asleep. Either we were very boring or soothing! I used play "A Knight's Tale" in my bedroom TV/VCR and would sing "We Will Rock You" along with the movie while pounding on the bed with the beat, and Jackie would jump up and down on the bed and bark along with me. I haven't tried doing that since I got Maya. I'll have to have a trio with my two girls one of these days! One time in the car I was singing along with "I Can't Stop This Feeling" by Swede where they do the OOGA-CHUCKA-OOGA-OOGA-OOGA, and Jackie REALLY thought that was strange! LOL! Quote
snowpaws Posted May 4, 2003 Posted May 4, 2003 :o Oh dear, just realised I DO sing to the dogs... That song Girls and Boys by good charlotte was just on the telly, and Rio looked at me with those great big eyes.. I sang, I love Reggie, he is such a honeeeeyyy! instead of Girls dont like boys, girls like cars and money!!!! Quote
Bubblezzz Posted May 4, 2003 Posted May 4, 2003 behle, I can just imagine what the neighbours might think if they ever happen to chance upon your howling family!!!! :D Ahahahaha!!! :D That's just SOOOO cute!!! :D I wish I could teach my dogs to be more vocal this way too! Is there any way? I haven't had much success teaching 'Speak'! We sing and dance with Cosmic - usually when the radio's on. He gets really happy and excited - I think he's just a sucker for all the attention. :banan: Floppy doesn't seem to appreciate our singing though - she'd grunt and look questioningly at us, like "DUUHHH...What's up with you dweebs??" :D Cosmic also gets babied with lullabyes - he'll cuddle and act cute!! :) Quote
