For those of you who don't know we recently had to put our 16yo GSD, Rinny to sleep. :( Now we only have one little terror left, and he is coping well with the loss of his best mate. Dad has no plans to get him another little friend. :( So BK is finally king of the verandah which he has been itching for since we moved there (1997). He is a lot calmer now, it's almost like he doesn't have to prove anything anymore...? does that make sense? Even though he was alpha he must have felt he had to constantly assert himself over Rinny, and now he doesn't have to. Dad has even started letting him in sometimes (this is very exciting!), because he knows that BK is a little bit lonely now. He's behaved himself really well inside, not acting psycho like he used to but all calm and, dare I say, mature. :D Dad is also getting the house painted and BK is excited because he loves the painters and they love him, plus they are around all the time so he has people to annoy.

Ok so I am not the only one whose younger wild child dog grew up after the older one was gone. Ivan used to run off for hours if he accidentally got outside without the leash. After Phyllis passed away, Ivan turned into a "real" dog, he go no further than 10 or 15 feet away from us outside and would actually obey!

No I didn't know you lost you shepherd :( I looked at your photos Rinny was a lovely looking dog you must miss her terribly !

Yeah, he was such a wonderful dog- but he just got to the point where the bad days outnumbered the good days. :( We feel more relieved than anything else because I suppose with an old dog you know their time is coming, whereas if he was younger (eg. under 5 yo) it would be much more heartbreaking. And he had severe arthritis and was blind, deaf, stroke-affected, so it definitely wasn't a huge shock (still sad though).

But I am so happy that BK the horror dog is growing up, at the age of (almost) 8, better late than never eh! :D

bk- i guess i am feeling pretty fortunate about dresden she's still a terror and has a whole bunch of annoying habits (like she still nips when she gets excited and it hurts like heck and her attention span for training is still very minimal) but she really has started calming down a little bit and she is being very affectionate. that has just started in the last couple months, she's trying to learn as many ways possible to make me pet her and she has also started the whole leaning thing .......it's really very nice, i thought she was going to act possessed forever......maybe you should think about another dog, you know how many need homes and you know blitz sounds like he needs another dog to terrorize ......ha ha.......i looked at those pictures of him in the pictures section, he is gorgeous! i need to post some new pictures of my nutcase, she's a lot bigger.........

Marble, would LOVE more pics of your gorgeous hellhound. :D :D

I would love to get him another playmate, but it's not my house and not my rules :( When I move out properly from home (ie. never ever going back!) I want to get another dog. With any luck maybe later on this year. :)
