Guest Anonymous Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 I may be crazy, but someone keeps telling me there is a breed of dog called a Commodore. Has anyone ever heard of it? Their explaination was "kind of like a white Puli". I have never seen a white puli, but have heard they exist. Does anyone else know of dogs with corded type hair? Thank you all, J Quote
imported_Cassie Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 It is called a Komondor, which has a corderd coat (the only color allowed is white so it will blend in with the sheep it guards) Quote
Poofy Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Komodors are in the White LGD group (large guardain dogs) along with Pyrs, Kuvas, Marammer and other white guardain breeds. They are know for their very protective nature and armor like coats. They are often shaved down once a year with the sheep. They will pick up plant life in there coats as it grows out making them look like the landscape. ;) They are NOT a dog for the faint of heart. The show, corded, look that you see in the ring is not how the coat naturally looks when left to its own demise. (BTW puli do come in white but they are hearding dogs not guardian dogs) Quote
pei obssessed Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 Check this site: http://www.puppydogweb.com/caninebreeds/komondor.htm There is a picture too--they look fabulous, but I imagine they'd be so hard to groom... Quote
