People in my area are going around throwing poison over people's fences who own dogs. My friends home was the last targeted and I don't know if I will be next. She lives just across the road from me so she is very close. What should I do to protect them? I don't want to keep them from the back yard all the time, and even if I am out with them, I can't watch both of them at the same time. They are like mice, they always scurry to different directions. Please help!! :(

The sign might work but I would suggest that you go out and do a quick search of your yard before letting the dogs out. You may also want to think about keeping them on leash even in your backyard until you know it is all clear.

Don't really have a suggestion other than to keep a very close eye on them in the back yard.

Geez the human race really disgusts me sometimes

I think all the dogs owners in your area should band together and try to catch the people doing this.

oh this is terrible
i like michele`s idea of that sign, it might put them off in future, and diffinatley report it to the police.
i had this happen to my dogs about 4-5yrs ago. the nieghbours were throwing slug poison pellets over the fence for my dogs to eat when ever we were out or weren`t looking. Unfortunatley even after how careful were when we let them outside Bronwin my rotty got poisoned bady and spent a week at the vets on drips and everthing despartatley trying to get the poison out of her system and keep her from becoming even more dehydrated by the poison, The poor girl couldn`t even stand up, we really thought we were going to loose her. It was one of the worst things that`s ever happened to my dogs
these people who do it are sick and evil
The police weren`t much help, so my husband went round to the nieghbour and lets just say had a "word" with them, and it worked as they`ve never done it again!!
Hope you can find some way of protecting them, and inspecting the garden thoroughly before you let them out. but i`d really do the suggestion about the sign, it will probably put them off if they think thier being watched and that people are aware of what`s going on.
good luck, and keep us updated :D

If you have a video camera, put it up. wide angle view of the yard.
Then put a sign by it that says "This area under video surveillance".
BIG sign, BIG letters. Easy to see from everywhere in the yard and directly outside it.
If you can, keep a light on in the yard at all times so the sign can be plainly seen. Then check it every time you go to let the dogs out, to see if anything has been thrown in the yard, and by who....

The sign itself and seeing the video camera may make them think twice, but if you can catch them in the act, even better. Sick bastards....
