marion Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 I have a friend who's just come back from working in Hong Kong for 5 years. He new our old dog Jasmine (English Setter) who sadly died aged 13 four years ago (still cry). He has just met Ruby and Rosie for the first time, I home cook all my dogs food and he's aghast. He says if he ever has them to stay they will have to eat tinned dog food. Thankfully this will never be the case as we have only had one holiday abroad in the four years we've had them. We have had four beautiful cottage holidays with them, mostly in the Highlands of Scotland. Cottage on Loch Ness (no didn't spot Nessie, although Ruby was in there looking often enough). Gone of the point rambling again. I'd be interested to know what everyone feeds their dogs, everybody is different, and if anyone has any new recipes that would be a bonus. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 I cook for mine as well. Cabbage, carrots, rice or noodles, chicken... Quote
Rosebud Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 :D Eagle Natural mixed with Cooked Ground Beef, Chicken, Steak, Fish, Chicken Noodle Soup, Canned Food, Mashed Potatoes, you name it. My babies get plain kibble to munch on during the day, at their evening dinner they get whatever I'm eating provided it doesn't have any heavy sauces, hot seasonings, or just tooo much grease, although they love chicken fingers and pizza. They get yogurt 2-3 times a week, occasionally I will let them have a little bit of ice cream. They get bones to brush their teeth with and they brush their teeth everynight after dinner themselves. I have never had a problem with their digestive system, nobody has a sensitive stomach, no food allergies, they have nice healthy coats and I get the added bonus of regular, solid poo poos to pick up and put in the doggy septic tank. Quote
snowpaws Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 My husky loves scrambled egg or ready brek for breakfast! He sometimes gets leftover bits off meat or potatos from the sunday dinner! I also make him cups of tea!! He loves it! Don't worry I'll look after your dogs when you go away if you like! :D Quote
imported_Cassie Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 I feed all raw foods...raw beef, chicken, ox, lamb, heart, liver, eggs etc...I also feed all raw veggies which I blend up in my blender usually with flax seed oil or cod liver oil or wild salmon oil...I feed canned Sardines, canned Wild Salmon, some times makerel? sp and I some times put organic oats in her breakfast and I feed her Yoghurt some times plain sometimes with wild berries blended up and put in (blueberries, Strawberries, Raspberries, blackberries) in the summer my dogs eat these berries straight from the vines! I feed only organic foods (when I can find them!) and free range chickens...I go to a local butcher to get my other meats...I also supplement my Dogs diets with Alfalfa, and Kelp, vitamin C, vitamin E, Multi vitamin...the supplements I only give occasionally, I also grow green wheat grass for my babies to munch on...my babies have a very mixed variety of foods and they have never been so healthy...the best thing one of my Newf's had severe allergies constantly when I had her on kibble, she was miserable...that is a story of the past! no more allergies! imported_Cassie Posted May 4, 2003 Posted May 4, 2003 I know I sound outrageous  But with the extra money I spend on food I am saving a large sum of cash from constantly buying antibiotics, blood tests etc. And seeing a dog in such misery due to allergies....she had vaginal infections, ear infections, skin problems, horribe coat...and she was miserable because she did'nt feel good...all the money I put into their food is worth it to me...and I share their food! when I have a BBQ I some times serve...dog food... :o Quote
Aroura Posted May 4, 2003 Posted May 4, 2003 LOL, can I come to one of your bbq's??? Do you give them cranberry juice?? Apparently thats good for some infections in dogs. Quote
imported_Cassie Posted May 5, 2003 Posted May 5, 2003 Some times I give a little bit of cranberry sauce with their fruits & yoghurt...I know its good for a humans urinary tract...so it must be good for a dogs. Usually when I give berries or yoghurt I give them seperate from their meats and veggies...just like our selves...I read some where...long long ago that when you eat fruits with main course dishes such as meats that the fruits can ferment in your belly...don't know how true this is...but I kinda use it as my own personal rule for myself, family and my dogs. Aroura Posted May 6, 2003 Posted May 6, 2003 Yeah, apparently they aren't supposed to have fruit for at least half an hour before other meals. I havn't heard anything like that about veggies though? Quote
