So I thought to myself, "Max is getting a little bored. These squeaky plush toys look great. Why don't I get a few?" And so began my descent into squeaker hell! As I am typing this, piercing squeaks are emanating from the bedroom. It is now 8:30 in the evening and the squeaking began at 2:00 in the afternoon. Somehow I have to trick Max into leaving the harmless looking $2.00 rubber ball with the squeaker alone long enough for me to hide the cursed thing in the closet so my husband and I can get some sleep!!

It all began several days ago with plush toys that have the squeaker bladder inside. He really had a great time with them for a few days, but quickly went through FOUR of them, ripping out the seams, pulling out the stuffing, locating and "killing" the squeaker. So today while at Discout Pet Center I purchased two more plush toys and two soft rubber squeaker balls. He liked the purple and red crab and the plush cheeseburger squeaker toys. BUT WHEN HE SAW THE SQUEAKER BALL AND MADE IT SQUEAK HE TOTALLY FREAKED OUT! "Fantastic! Wonderful! Finally a ball that makes noises like a squirrel!" I can imagine that thought flashing through his mind. He has been continually worrying this ball, carrying it about, guarding it, and squeaking it virtually non-stop!

Ah, finally a lull in the noise. He must be resting; gearing up for the next onslaught! Perhaps I can sneak up on him and spirit the ball away!
:o He's been acting like a hyperactive toddler!!!! Sound familiar, anyone? (Ooops! While I finished typing this, squeaking has started again!)

Yeeeeesssss, it does sound familar. The continual, NON-stop, no breaths taken, SQUEAK! Aaaauuugggghhhh.

How do keep the his favorite "SQUEAKY toy from hell" away from him? He searchs the ENTIRE house and then lays his head on your lap with a very, very, mournful look......"I've lost my squeaky...can you help me find it?" ....oh, alright......I buried it on the back 40 acres, 6 foot in the dirt, then poured concrete on top of it, filled in the soil and then piled hugh rocks on top! AND put a cross on top, so it can NOT come back to life ......but, I'll go dig it up.....with my bare hands......oh the pain......

Um...yeah...feel your pain.

Update:
1. Owner sneaks up on Max as he is resting, grabs ball.
2. Hides ball somewhere in house out of his reach.
3. Dog wakes up from power nap, realizes ball is gone!
4. Dog searches throughout house.
5. Locates ball by smell on fireplace mantle.
6. Stands under mantle looking up.
7. Dog looks at mantle, barks, roos, looks at owner!
8. Repeats step seven about 20 more times.
9. Defeated owner gives ball back to dog.
10. Dog carries ball back to bedroom.
11. Squeaking begins again.
12. Owner realizes error of her ways in purchasing squeaky ball! :-?

Well first, if you are holding out any hope that he'll get tired of it, give up  Then, either either learn to ignore the usounds or render the toys squeakless. Let him squeak a new toy for a few hours/days, then poke it in the squeaker a few times with a pin (if it's a stuffy... if it's one of those plastic/rubber balls, you can just cut a little "extra" hole in it). This will make it squeak less loudly, because not all the air will be going out through the squeaker. Some dogs don't even care if the toy still squeaks at all after they're had it a few days... they just "click" the squeaker instead of squeaking it

ha ha ha.... this thread is sooo funny. I'm pretty sure we have all been there. I remember giving Indy a brand new squeaking toy just as the football grandfinal was starting - got to say my b/f was not a happy camper

Gooeydog definatley has the right idea, though Indy actually puts it into action him self. His squeakers only last about an hour or two then he comes to me with the toy in his mouth biting it as hard and as fast as he can and looking at me as if to say "Why won't it squeak anymore?"

OH YEAH!! It's like, "Fix it please". I feel bad that I can't (smiling to myself)...heehee

It's the squeaky circle from h***!

Squeaky Assassination then Squeaky Resurrection....Assainate... Resurrect.......and on and on and on and on.

Comprise is the only solution. I settled for the larger squeaky, the one that sounds more like a pathetic lamb. Not as high pitched and easier to live with, cannot be squeaked as fast as it's smaller evil sibling.

And lots of :drinking: :drinking: :drinking:

You could try this but you have to be careful - enlarge the hole a little, pull the squeaker out and tie it in a SMALL balloon - then put it back in. this should muffle the squeaking without completely stopping it. Make sure the balloon is loose around the squeaker or it wont squeak anymore....But also make sure the dog cant pull it out - make multiple knots in the tie to be sure he cant pull it out of the toy, or else monitor his chewing closely.

Good luck - earplugs otherwise???

Here is a picture of Max gazing lovingly at the offensive squeaker toy after he is tired out from frantically chewing and pawing at it!

He is in love! :iloveyou:

Yes indeed, Malamum, that little thing caused all that trouble! And it was a bargain too; only two dollars for the joy of being awakened yet again this morning by its piercing squeak!

Thanks for giving Max a compliment! I will tell him....

Well, Rosebud, I seem to be able to tune it out now most of the time! I haven't hit the bottle yet! :drinking: There's only an occasional extreme fit of squeaking now and then; I've taken it from him so much that he usually goes to another room to squeak it! :evilbat:

AARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!! "Squeaky" hell!! I think most of us have probably been there at some time or other  :silly:  What a nightmare :smhair2: :wallbash: :drinka:

Well you can definately tell that he is in love with it, and you are the best mommy ever for letting him keep it. I'm sure that he would agree.

That's cute how he will go to another room to keep you from taking it from him. Four-legged babies are soooo smart.
