LuvMyMiko Posted April 2, 2003 Author Posted April 2, 2003 im trying to get more info on it ... i do know its made by a company call Tomlyn and it is a high calorie dietary supplement for picky eaters. here is brief description i found: NUTRI-CAL Quote
DogPaddle Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 So this is dietary supplement that is designed to give pets who don't eat much the needed nutrients and some extra cals? I couldn't find an ingredients list, and haven't heard of it but a few years ago we did get a product from our vet for our 5lb cat that wouldn't eat, it did the same thing and was suppossed to stimulate her appatite some, worked well for us. Rosebud Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 :-? I was wondering Why did someone suggest Nutrical, has Miko not been eating for a long time. If the refusal to eat is something that just started then I would not opt for using the Nutrical unless their is a serious life-threatining reason. I would just not feed anything but dog food. Miko should only miss about 2 feedings before he gives in and eats his dog food. Now this will only work if everyone quits giving him treats and table scraps. I had to do this to one of my cats and it does work as hard as it is to deny food to the babies. Good Luck, Quote
RR Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Wheres the meat? look at the first 3 ingredients, well actually look at almost all of them. Not good!! Do an internet search for premium brands like Wellness, Solid Gold, Canidae, Natural Balance and look at their ingredients and the order of. Quote
Carolk9s Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Nutrical is not SUPPOSED to be a meat source, it is used to stimulate the appetite of animals who are off their feed mainly for medical reasons. It also provide trace nutrients and vitamins that the animal is not getting. I agree with Rosebud, stick to your guns with Miko or he will be spoiled forever. You need to also crack down on the family, no more table scraps, nothing! Just a good quality dog food. Now I am not adverse to adding some cooked green beans or cooked or raw carrots but this is simply a treat in their food, not incentive to eat it. Only if Miko's health is suffering by not eating would I consider Nutrical or some other supplement. You might moisten his dry food with a scant bit of warm water to bring out the scent of the food better. How old is Miko? Are his teeth in good shape? Quote
RR Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Oh whew, I thought it was a type of diet!!! :tard: Still not anything I would give to my dog. Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted April 10, 2003 Posted April 10, 2003 Actually I give a pea sized amount to all of my females who have had newborn pups . Other than that I let them free feed when they have puppies. I also give it to puppies who are not eating enough. But it is pretty strong so don't give them to much you don't want to over do it. But If the other adult dogs stop eating I would just skip a feeding by the next feeding they should be back to normal if not they should be taken to a vet there could be something wrong. Quote
RescuerAndVetTech Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 NutriCal is a wonderful product, provided it is used properly. It's used for sick animals who refuse to eat and/or are in bad shape, and also for those picky eaters who refuse to eat and aren't getting the vitamins and nutrients they need. I use it on my min pin, and I feel much better. He doesn't get table food, so it's not a problem with being "spoiled" etc. He's definately finicky, and I've tried almost every food out there for him. NutriCal will stimulate his appetite to the point where he will eat more than he was, which is always good. Cici, I would definately purchase the product if you haven't already. First off, you do want to be sure eveyone is following the same routine and not feeding the dog table scaps etc. Then get Miko used to the idea of eating dog food. If the finicky behavior is still there and is persisting, then you should definately be more concerned. It's a good idea to give a little NutriCal and then try feeding soon after. The good thing is not only does my dog loves it, but it stimulates his appetite and also provides him with the nutrition he needs while rebounding. Quote
