Daisysmom Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Well, I am back from seeing the homeopathic vet and guess what she told me to feed Daisy? BARF!!, Slippery Elm and Unleash along with her dry food! Alicat, I should have listened to you instead of paying $235.00!!!!!! We spent a long time with the dr. and it seems what I was doing was good!! She doesn't like the EN either, but wants me to supplement the above with it. She told me to feed her raw chicken backs. Where do I get them???? I gave her wings and a thigh instead, couldn't find backs. We shall see what happenes....... she also gave her some sort of homopathic treatment: Sulphur ????? Any ideas on that one??? I can't tell you know who how much this was :o Quote
Hobbit Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Regardless of what some people will say --- CHICKEN BONES DO SPLINTER ---- raw and cooked. Just keep this in mind. I have seen many, many radiographs (x-rays) where the dog was on the raw barf diet and was being fed raw chicken with bones. The bones splintered and some lodged in the intestinal tract of the dog. I just hope the processing is adequate and the chicken is free from Salmonella. Quote
Daisysmom Posted April 2, 2003 Author Posted April 2, 2003 She chewed them right up!! I really need to chop them for her, and didn't this first time. But, I will until she gets used to them. I was really surprised at this! She told me to feed it to the puppy too :-? Quote
Hobbit Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Just curious....did this holistic person give pros and cons of the barf diet, or just the pros? Quote
Daisysmom Posted April 2, 2003 Author Posted April 2, 2003 We only talked about how people either love it or hate it. To answer your question, no she really didn't give me the cons. I think she knew that I was familiar with the diet. Quote
Hobbit Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Hum....I see. You can ask the butcher at your favorite grocery store for chicken backs. Sometimes, they are more than happy to help out. You can get them in volume, if you have the place to store them. Quote
courtnek Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Sulfur is a non-metallic element consisting mostly of proteins. It has been used in the past to treat certain kinds of skin ailments. She may have added it to Daisy's diet because it will make her stools firmer. Quote
