Guest Anonymous Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 http://www.theiowachannel.com/severeweather/1685237/detail.html do the survey Quote
Prairie_Gurl Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 I did the survey. Gross, isn't it? I don't think that they should ban pits, I mean, yea pits CAN be mean. But so can Shih tzus, Poodles, Labs, Schnauzers (sp), ... EVERY DOG WOULD BE BANNED!!! I've never been bitin by a bully breed, but have been attacked (and to this day cannot figure out why... I was just standing there talking to the owner. No motions or anything.) by two Shih tzus. Unfortunatly, my city has banned pit bulls and so I (or anyone else in that matter) cannot have pits inside city limits. But I have three friends who live on base and they have pits who are well trained and wonderful animals. So sweet. Quote
luckychaos Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 I did the survey too. People think that if Pit Bulls are banned all dog attacks will just go away. I agree Prairie_gurl that little dogs can attack just as well as big dogs even if they might not cause as much damage. I actually got bitten by a Yorkie yesterday, but does thet mean that all yorkie's are bad? No, it dosen't. After Pit Bulls their just gonna pick on another breed anyway. Quote
imported_Debbie Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Our city and surrounding citys (all small) are considering making all owners of "Guard type dogs" which I take to mean GSH, Rotts, Pits, etc...., carry ONE MILLION DOLLAR INSURANCE POLICYS !!! , In case of bites, attacks , etc..... We just had a case in our small city of Binghamton, where this guy named Anthony Garroway (nicknamed "BeastMaster") was on trial for fighting Pits. They confiscated 3 dogs and ultimately they were destroyed, because they were not adoptable. The doof represented himself in court and lost !!! Big surprise !!! He went to prison. Too bad he didn't get euthanized right along with those poor dogs he abused !!!!! All Dogs have a propensity to bite , just depends on the circumstances. Debbie 8) Quote
courtnek Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Once again, they are going about this all the wrong way. Banning Pit Bulls wont stop dog fighting - the fighters will just pick another dog if they want to. I think it's not a bad idea to insist on licensing if you own a potentially dangerous dog but ANY dog can be dangerous. It all depends on breeding, in some cases, and on treatment by the owners in others. Shepherds, Rotts, Dobies, they all went through this in years gone by. The more in demand they are, the more puppies the less reputable breeders and puppy mills produce. That's really where the attention should be placed.... I say licensing because the true dog lover wont object, they know they are going to treat their dog well. But some others may be discouraged in owiing such an animal if they had to have it licensed because then it's on record with the authorities. That wont stop the fighters of course, they couldnt care less. But it might stop some of the "macho" sales of dogs because they're "tough dogs"... just a thought The PB on the next yard is a real sweetheart and has a BC as a companion. If it hadnt been for this room I would never have known that dog aggression was natural to them. Education is necessary here as well... Quote
bk_blue Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 signed. "we" are winning- it's 57% to 43%. 8) Quote
Carolk9s Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 Of course the less evolved humans who continue to fight their dogs and insist on the right to do so will NOT see that their actions are in part responsible for such bans. I don't care if they are back alley fighters or well organized, the REPUTATION of the Pit is, IN PART, derived from the aggressive nature that these cretins promote. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 That is kind of dumb. Fighters will not move on to another breed lol they will just continue to own them and breed them illegally. Hey they might even make a new name for them and guess what how will they prove that they are in fact Apbt's and not some other breed? Registration papers and pedigrees do not need to be on site you know. As for thugs and Macho types yes they will move on to other breeds and I can think of quite a few that are very aggressive and they are bred to be that way and they are potential more dangerous than Apbt's who have been bred to be friendly to humans but I won't name any breeds. But it is not the fighters that are the problem if the general public would quit allowing their dogs to get loose and quit using the excuse that becasue the have a little dog they can let it be wild and crazy there would be a lot less so called "pit bull" attacks on other animals. gooeydog Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 It doesn't matter if they make up a new name for them, they'll still look like "pit bulls", and they'll be under the same BSL as the other "pit bulls" will. American Bulldogs aren't pit bulls, yet they're included in the definition of "pit bull" for most BSL. And most BSL also states that if a dog looks to be at least part "pit bull", it falls under the term pit bull. Lisencing(sp?) won't work unless the entire area (and everyone in it) is willing to report unlicensed dogs. The ACOs aren't the ones who see the dogs out in the yard every day, or see the dogs roaming every night (unless they drive around looking), and fail to report it because it's "none of their business". That's the main problem with relying on a licensing system to control dogs/owners. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 26, 2003 Posted March 26, 2003 BSL is just plain wrong. there is already so man cities impacted, in most cases dogs that are already there can be kept but the owners must sign this little book to take full responsiblity if there is an incident, no matter what the circumstance. And they have to have ungdly amount of insurance sometimes up to $1 million!!! In most cases the dogs that BSL affects are more than just the breed intended. Here is a list of some breeds often confused as pit bulls: 1. AmStaff 2. Staffy Bull 3. Boxer 4. AB 5. Alapaha Blue blood Bulldog 6. great danes 7. any mix that happens to appear even remotely "bullish" 8. bull terrier 9. ca de bou 10. Bandogge 11. boston terriers 12.old english bulldog 13.bully cutha 14. catahoula bulldog 15. dogo argentino 16. dogo cubano 17. dogo gutemalteco 18. old boston bulldog 19. victorian bulldogs All of these breeds and others will be affected with BSL the ownerswould have to have on them at any given time written reference as to thier dogs lines and breeding. Any rescues would have to put down any dog that seemed like a bull because none of them have paper and you cant register them with out knowing what they are, even mixed breed registries need to know that much. This is just a case of a few bad apples.... Quote
