Kiger Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 Anyone tried this? (Wysong, Steve's Real Food, etc...) I edited the original post because I can't feed the frozen stuff easily. Quote
alicat613 Posted March 7, 2003 Posted March 7, 2003 The Steve's is made up here and seems to be a great company BUT it comes out to over $30 a pound. Maybe if you're feeding a mini-Chihuahua but.... I hadn't seen Wysong's freeze dried. Their kibbles are very good and well priced. Pound for pound their kibbles are about the same price as stuff like Iams and Euk, with much better prices. Do you have a link to their freeze dried stuff? Quote

Nancy B Posted March 8, 2003 Posted March 8, 2003 I looked at Steve's as well as quite a few other commercially produced raw foods. The upshot is that the sheer volume of food that my two Dobes consume (especially the male) made it clear that I had to prepare the food myself. If you've got a small dog, that's something else. Kiger Posted March 8, 2003 Author Posted March 8, 2003 I ordered some of the Wysong. I'll let you know how fast a 20lb. dog consumes it. Quote
alicat613 Posted March 8, 2003 Posted March 8, 2003 Well my dog eats about 4 pounds of food a day at 6 months so these are out of the question for me!! But a friend recently tried the Steve's sample at a store (er, her dog did) and her dog loved it! Thanks for the link! I can never find anything at the Wysong site. Looks good - still pricey!! Quote

Kiger Posted March 14, 2003 Author Posted March 14, 2003 I got it today in the mail. I can't see this stuff lasting very long so I'm going to use it in addition to his regular food. It looks like dirt in case anyone is wondering - expensive dirt. You can add water which then makes it look like wet mulch. Since Kato likes to eat dirt and mulch he naturally went wild over this stuff. Quote

alicat613 Posted May 11, 2003 Posted May 11, 2003 ROFL!! My dog would love that! Dirt that he's allowed to eat? Might be worth the price for a treat LOL. Quote
Kiger Posted May 12, 2003 Author Posted May 12, 2003 It's really, really expensive and doesn't last long. It's also very high in protein and fat - 50% protein, 28% fat. He loves it, BUT it's just not cost effective and sometimes it gives him the runs. Quote
alicat613 Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 EEEEEEK! :o 50% protein?? That's just asking for trouble. Giant breeds no more than 23 maybe 25 as an adult, but I can't even imagine giving that high protein to ANY dog. Quote
Kiger Posted May 13, 2003 Author Posted May 13, 2003 Well, it's the same thing as BARF - practically all protein. Quote
